The problem with staying turn to the horror aspect is that neither franchase is scary anymore. Alien 1 was scary because the monster was kept in the shadows and the audience only ever caught glimpses of it and your imagination of what it might be fueled the fear. Now that the Alien has been dancing around in the light for a while you can't simply put it back into the shadows anymore and expect audience members to "imagine" something super Scary. We already know whats in the shadow down to the number of toes. With predator the same problem exists. We the audience already know what the predator is and how it operates. Every horror franchise runs into the same problems, you can't keep the same thing scary over and over again. Jason isn't scary anymore. The audience cheers for jason. Alien and Predator have to make the transition into sci fi action thriller because they simply aren't scary anymore.

The problem is we, the audience know the predator/alien now. There is no mystery. The originals were amazing, we didn't see the predator until like 70 min into a 90 min movie but today if the audience doesnt see a lot of it in 20 min they are pissed. Look at Prometheus, not enough alien then the 2nd too much alien because they reacted to fans... It's just never going to be the same when you completely know and understand the predator

Someone should actually make a website featuring gravestones for film franchises, where we can all vote on which ones are best left alone. The ones that get the most thumping majorities (so above a certain threshold, say 80%) for 'finished' get an animated gravestone on the front page, a clear indication that people think this franchise is good as is and doesn't get to be touched for more cheap cash grabs.

Franchises are just extremely remunerative ways to squeeze every drop of blood from one often great concept while turning it into a sort of reflection of a reflection of a reflection. And you end up with lots of bad serialised movies that are the unwatchable (for me) product of laziness and greed. Just imagine how even greater would Rocky be if all the sequels - the Rocky franchise - didn’t exist. Examples are countless

aahm, no.. it had some half good, and some half hilarious moments.. that's it! Also, the predator in the the sequel were somehow "magically" bullet prof, which just destroyed the whole feeling of it being vulnerable, i.e. something that could be defeated. Yet somehow later, it all the sudden became vulnerable enough for an elderly man (Glover) to defeat in hand to hand combat, while a well trained elite commando (Dutch) didn't stand a chance! Yeah, great movie!!

@@rezneba101 Not really. AvP was forgettable, but at least halfway decent, and had Bishop in it (sort of). AvP's main issue was being a PG-13 movie. I think it could easily have been a good R movie, with some tweaks. And AvP is still the best Predator move since Arnold's (as cheesy as that one was, good lord HAVE you seen it recently?) It's Alien franchise that is really letting me down. Haven't had a decent one since Aliens (I guess AvP is sort of an Alien movie as well, but it was geared more to Predator I thought). They need to Ridley Scott off the series, before he burns it to the ground. Just let Blomkamp take over, it's what people actually want.

I enjoy Predator 2 in a few ways. One of the things I like most is that they didn't simply rehash the original Predator. The first time I saw it, when the Predators emerged after Glover killed the primary antagonist, I honestly thought "Oh crap! Danny's dead. There's no way he's going to win this. At the very least, they're taking him back to their home planet with them where he's going to get his ass kicked by the sibling(s) of the predator that he killed." The show of respect at the end was a pleasant surprise.

Predator 2 and 3 might not have been an all time classic compared to the 1st part but they in no-way did as much damage to the franchise as this latest installment...makes you wonder for 8 years what the hell were the movie studio's doing...when Predators came out in 2010 a whole 20 years since the last entry, it was decent enough..this shane black edition has done absolutely NOTHING for Predator as a whole but instead, pushed back any hope for another entry by another 20 years probably...
