I live in CA in Los Angeles and I’m a Realtor here. I’ve also live 17 yes in Alabama. The weather is amazing here in CA but the traffic, cost of living and fast paced society can be exhausting. Earthquakes are scary, but I lost my home to a tornado and never want that again! So it’s a toss up!

Long live the old Nashville #1 cost of living will continue to go up due to transplants. #2 You say people don't have basements which is true, but I know a lot of people that do and it's better to have what you don't need then need and not have. #3 The four seasons are pretty nice if you know what you're doing in the wintertime.

I been severely depressed here came stay here and turning into a vegetable.

Need info on jobs. I’m from California and looking for more affordable living and more conservative values for my kids. How does a person like myself get more info in depth about the pros and cons. I’m from the LA and it’s getting bad here imo and just doesn’t align with my values anymore.

Just giving you advice as someone who is a Tennessee native, moved to Los Angeles and then back to Tennessee again…you will get a lower cost of living but your pay is going to drop significantly as well. So in terms of lifestyle and cost, it’s all relative. People who work remote and keep their west coast jobs will be happiest in places like Nashville. But Nashville and other cities in Tennessee do not have the cultural exposure, things to do like children’s museums, outdoor adventure or hiking is minimal. My honest opinion is that it is just boring here. I regret moving back here. My cost of living went down but so did my job prospects and pay and now I can’t afford shit. When I lived in Los Angeles, I was able to afford my $2,500 apartment PLUS frequent traveling. I flew back to Ohio and Tennessee a few times over 3 years to visit family. Now, I’m lucky if I can afford to make the 4 hour driving commute to Ohio for family or the 8 hour drive to the beach in Florida. I would much rather live in California again than here. If you’re looking for something lower cost and more conservative in values, look at Orange County. And also, St. George, Utah is amazing. I wouldn’t make such a big move across the country just to regret it and struggle moving back.

My truth is California is a beautiful and amazing place. People want to move because, through their votes and beliefs, they've turned it into a cesspool. The problem is, they keep moving to wonderful conservative places, instead of saying "This is great, let's see how they made it great", they bring their votes and beliefs and start turning these wonderful places into cesspools. People from California are easy to like but it's horrible when they move to your town. They should have to fix their own state and not destroy the entire US.

As a former Californian living in the Nashville area let's keep that narrative going. Terrible weather and tornadoes all the time. It's not true, but what is true is that it's no longer "inexpensive" to live in/around Nashville. Low taxes yes, but home prices in better areas look a lot like Orange County, probably because people from CA, NY, and NJ are moving here in droves. I keep hoping home prices will keep folks away but it's not happening.

@@kevinfessler6831 I moved from Orange County, CA. to Middle Tennessee. Rural area I bought a brand new home with 10 acres. I loved the peace and quiet area. But I couldn't get used to the freezing cold weather and storms and tornado warnings all the time. The electrical bills were expensive in the winter. I moved back to California after one year in Tennessee. I'm happier now in a sunny State without humidity.

@@genesis1.111 Hey, you do you. If you gave me a beachfront house in Newport I wouldn't move back. Still have family living in CA as we go back 100+ years in the state. I visit for Christmas, love seeing family/friends and can't wait to get HOME. My electric bills are 30+% lower in TN. I was surprised how much humidity wasn't an issue for me, but it's not like FL level humid in TN. I'm glad you moved back and are living where you want to live. It's important.

I’m just gonna give you my point of view I’m not from Tennessee, but I lived in Tennessee. My mother was born and raised in Tennessee. My family is buried in Tennessee. I have talked to many people who are still in Tennessee, born raised and lived there all their life they don’t like the outsiders. They don’t want the California people there because what they have done is is they’ve come in don’t their money down on the table, and they caused big problems because they’ve moved in with all of their money bought up all of the land raise the housing prices, especially for those who have lived upon generation upon generation of land that’s been passed down can no longer afford to keep their land because you guys from California have come in and bought these properties and built these big homes And what you have done for the local people that been there for years as you have raised their taxes so high, they cannot keep the property that they’ve owned for years and years. None of the not only that, but they don’t like the values that you guys have brought from California into the Bible belt of very conservative area. The further you get into the smaller towns of Tennessee and the backwoods you’ll find even though that they are friendly to you and will speak to you, but there’s a code down there that you don’t understand they don’t like you they don’t like outsiders they never have there is a code of living for those who are born and raised there of living is about their beliefs and values and custom the way that you treat your family, your wife, your husband, your parents and your children they don’t want you. They don’t like you if you’re from another state, especially someplace like California, take your money, but all you guys have done is created high prices for estate that has been used to having lower prices and people who’ve lived there for years and years and years be able to afford to keep the land the home and the things that they love affordable!!!

California is a big state with a lot of different things to offer based upon lifestyle preferences. Tennessee is a big state with a lot of different things to offer based upon preferences. Make sure you know what your must haves are and your preferences written down when researching. Research and be very intentional and thorough when it come down to the important things such as schools and safety. There are many places that may have moderate taxes but offers more high rated schools, and better amenities that produces a better quality of life. Deal with facts only and don't tell anyone who isn't knowledgeable with the new city and your objective.

@@Nashvilleonthemarket Question: Have you been to SoCalif? where I am... 'relative' distances, travel time, and road size and conditions would be very important to someone moving from SoCal to TN... example, North border of TN to Southern border of TN is about the same distance a Northern most point of LA county to southern most point of Orange County... its relevant because Those points out here are continuous suburbs, gas stations and strip malls on every corner. (8 lane freeways, 75 mph speeds) In TN, that same distance would be scarcely populate on mostly 2 lane windy roads.. speeds..? 50?.. at most? Another comparison, TN east to west distance in the same as LA to San Francisco... but again, road sizes, average speeds are very different. IF you can some how quantify those things, it would be meaningful to someone coming from CA to TN that has never been there before.

@@cmscms123456 Thanks! No one has ever asked about this before.. we have large interstates here (speeds are usually anywhere for 55-75) in TN so not only 2 lane windy roads but maybe we can do a video showing the different roadways/differences! I quickly looked it up and "the state has often been a centerpiece of the transportation movement, with over one-third of the state’s counties having interstate access. Moreover, Nashville is one of only four U.S. cities where six legs of the interstate converge within its boundaries: I-40 East and West, I-24 East and West, and I-65 North and South." Thank you so much for the great suggestion we will start work on a video!!

Northern California guy here, drove across Tennessee in May, the highways are nice speeds are similar to CA, with much less traffic. Tennessee is a beautiful state and is on my list of possible places to retire, maybe even before. Comparing middle TN (or any part of TN) to Socal is apples to oranges. It is not a concrete jungle, there is space between cities/towns. Nashville is busy and has it's traffic. I've been there a few times for business. In my opinion the thing that keeps California attractive is the weather and diversity, nothing else.

Homelessness', crime, drugs, immigration, taxes and the lack of water. The cost of living is very high but they have the beach and many very known National Parks. As it pertains to the weather, take for instance in San Diego there is zero humidity and average of 70 degrees year round and that is why almost everyone has a pool. Having moved from California to tennessee three years ago, we would never consider moving back to California ever again!
