I feel this way about most of John's satirical skits poking fun at everything that is wrong with churches and Christianity. It's actually disturbing. He is completely on point, but it's not doing anything uplifting ito changing anything. It's just skits about hypocracy, mammon, selfishness and all the sick parts of The Body. It leaves one feeling sad, cynical and depressed. Uplifting it is not.

In fairness to John, why would any church ever have the house lights ON? So we can see the late arriving attractive females walk in out of our peripheral vision while singing "O come to the altar the Father's arms are open wide"? Seriously, why do we need to see the congregation during worship?

So accurate... so much because it’s precisely what is wrong with churches today and especially worship leaders/teams. And to be frank, you know when it’s anointed or not, is not about goosebumps during a song or a warm feeling.
@savahbejin75114 жыл бұрын
Speaking of spontaneous....my favorite...popcorn prayer. “Let’s all form small circles of love and pray.” Everyone gets in circles and I realize my circle is too big so I step into another one without realizing...these are the women who pray like Southern Baptist preachers on a hot summer day. “Now, if y’all feel led to pray just jump right in.” The most Christianist, walk-on-water woman in the whole church begins, “Oh dear Lord, we just want to thank you for your Love and your Grace....”. And she prayers for ten minutes. Then, it starts around the circle. It’s getting closer to me and ain’t nobody gonna say, “sorry, but I ain’t feeling led right now.” These woman are sprouting out long biblical verses and I’m still on “Jesus wept.” The woman next to me starts and I know I’m next. “Lord,” I say to myself, “please give me the voice, the words, the heart to pray to You...and not be embarrassed. Amen.” It’s my turn! It’s my turn! It’s my turn! There is complete silence in our circle as everyone waits for me to start. “Ditto dear Lord. Amen.” True story.

As a former worship leader, I find this truly funny. However, I was never a worship leader on a level where I had equipment expensive enough to hear the music and direction in my ear. What I do take away from this aside from the satirical humor is that we are too caught up on "worship sets," "OURSELVES," and "performance."

The best worship leaders are those who live in the Lord's presence every day, bring that attitude with them to the "worship set", draw near to Jesus and invite the church to come with them. Something I've seen only a handful of times. Oh, and it helps to have musical abilities too.

First off, hilarious video, love it! Second, worship isn’t singing some songs someone else wrote, worship is what you do with your very life. I do agree that song services in church have gotten way out of hand, and it’s getting that way in my church too which is why I don’t play anymore for the most part. When did one instrument leading many voices in songs of truth suddenly not be enough. I love a good rock concert as much as the next guy born in the 70s, but not on a Sunday and certainly not every Sunday. There’s a reason why It is Well with My Soul still moves people and Take it All gets old after 4 or 5 months.

I'm upset by the implication that not just a few worship leaders are like this but all. Satire needs to be accurate and to be accurate it needs a clear target. @@stevenhulbert6973 The fact is that not everyone understands satire nor do antichristians care if it is satire they will use it simply as a way to discredit Christianity. That is the problem with you mocking the hypocrisy of people who identify as a member of the group you belong to. Several people have commented that this is "so true", they are too foolish to realize that they are agreeing with a lie. The video is titled "Honest worship leader" what is depicted is a hypocrite not an honest worship leader. He isn't a worship leader at all because he isn't worshiping God period. When people applaud this as "true" they insult true worshipers and they insult Christianity and the world(enemies and haters of God) delight in them calling Christians hypocrites because it means that they don't have to believe in God if the people who do believe in God call themselves hypocrites.

Well, this is a lampooning of one type of worship leader. I'd love to see him do one on the opposite type: where it doesn't matter how good or bad you sound, as long as your heart is in the right place. In 25 years as a church musician, I think that's actually the more common problem.

Joel Stucki Amen! Everyone is called to worship/be a worshipper. but as I've tried to explain to well meaning friends, not everyone is gifted to sing/play an instrument publicly (me included!). I've been in churches where the worship was highly produced, professional, but shallow and empty; and also in those where its so bad its agony inducing. In either case it's a distraction from worship focused on God. If I were a super Christian I suppose I could praise through the bleeding ears, but worship teams able to find that sweet spot between the two extremes are to be cherished.

I would also add that, having been behind the scenes at many churches for many services, the most common things discussed are not how the band or the worship leader looks. A tremendous amount of time is spent rehearsing the vocalizations and sung prayers that seem to follow every song, and which are presented as if they were spontaneous moments of heartfelt worship. They aren't. They are every bit as rehearsed as the rest of the set. It's all part of turning worship into a primarily emotional event, instead of a proclamation of the worth of God (which of course can involve emotions but not by definition).

I love that when John make these videos, it's actually bringing conviction in peoples hearts, but it's also making people laugh too- even at themselves (that's probabaly the point). We can take things so seriously, and God uses people like John to lighten peoples hearts up. Joyce Meyer has that same affect on me. She helps me laugh at my own foolishness and it's easier to repent and allow God to work in my heart. It's cool how God uses people this way :) Also, I recently heard how there's actually people directing worship leaders through ear pieces during worship lkke that... Like throughout the whole entire thing. I'd hate that🤦🏽

I think a big problem is that so many young people don’t read for themselves and allow God to reveal Himself through His word. Instead, they take what is said by the ones who make them feel comfortable. If you will notice, most of these large entertainment-style churches never get to know their people but rather just parade them as children of God. I proclaim that everyday, but I also never lose sight that I don’t deserve nor am I entitled to one single thing in this world. All of these churches are too focused on making sure the spotlight is centered on the main singer rather than positioning our spotlights on the true risen Savior who is still in the business of setting His children free. Sadly as well, a lot of these worship leaders, I believe, fall short of the anointing. Christine Caine puts it best when she talks of how there is a major difference between a song leader being gifted anointed. The gifted parade themselves and their talents before men and strive for man’s applause. The anointed direct any and all attention to the One who is the giver of all things. Where I am from is an area with traditional, conservative, Southern Baptist churches. This is a good thing because it teaches kids and adults to learn the Word of God for what it is: truth, rather than twisting it. Don’t be confused though. These “mega churches” are fine as long as they are anointed and never lose sight of where blessings come from. I am a firm believer that those who claim glory for their gifts instead of directing it to God will surely be dealt with by Him.

I've been in the field for the last five years, and am about to the point of wanting out because of how true this all is. I've known guitar players who admit that they're just doing it to impress women, I've seen people tear down other people to promote themself, I've seen people complain about playing in churches that are "too old" or "too small" for their skill level, I've been removed from a band when I was competition for a girl the drummer was going after, and most of the musicians I come in contact with express utter disinterest in the Bible while worshiping Bethel, Elevation, Hillsong, and other worship leaders. It is an industry, and the only thing these worship leaders are leading us to worship is themself. But not all, I've also met many humble people along the way who have a huge heart for God and who are also talented musicians. Unfortunately, they rarely make it very far because they don't suck up to the band leader.

Some days sound great, some in our mind may stink. The focus though is Jesus. There could be a person who can and wants to sing or play but are afraid because they are not great. So what! God tells us to make a joyful noise. It may be noise to some but to him its worship. And that's what matters. The song It's all about you, came from when the music became more important than worship. The preacher shut down the music service part till they got back to where God was the center. Point is, if I ever get to where I think there needs to be more of me over anyone I hope God will shut me down. If my coat needs to be seen please shut me down. I want my God to year what I do for him if no one else does or even cares. I want him to know I love him not the attention. He is what this is about period!

Sad that worshipping the Lord became a production! So who really is showing up?! Is it the real Holy Spirit! He comes to heal and deliver! On point John!!!

I’ve always thought it’s ok if instruments were off key, or someone’s microphone isn’t on. We are still worshiping the Lord no matter what’s wrong with lighting, sound or pitch.

You know, l saw a church go from allowing someone to stand and sing praise from their hearts to, not only having to ask permission ahead of time from the worship leader but having to AUDITION before being allowed to sing. When worship becomes all fine tuned, slick, empty performance art, that's when l'm outta there.

As believers we need to follow the church dynamics God has set out in His Word. 1. Do not muzzle the ox giving out grain. Truth is the Pastor gets paid because he serves up Spiritual feeding to the flock. Jesus command to Peter was "Feed my sheep" not ~sing to my sheep~. 2. Leading a church to sing is NOT essential to a church's dynamics. EVERYONE who has been redeemed can sing & worship God regardless of being gifted in it or not. It is ones expression & response to His/Her creator out of a heart of gratitude joy & gladness over God's work in redemption & sovereignty over all A church can function & get out the word / gospel minus praise & worship leaders. 3. The Word of God is central part of church growth not music. Again to proclaim God's word or the Gospel through music is good. But the word of God has to be preached. And a lot of these Praise & Worship showmanship doesn't proclaim the gospel through song rather an emotional experience.

This is everything I hate about churches today. If this made you uncomfortable maybe that's the holy spirit convicting you. In which case there's only one course of action- repent. It's repentance time.

1 of the many reasons why I have come to embrace Orthodoxy. The Orthodox Church simply hasn't changed since it first began, and it's beautiful.

Jordan Kintner I feel it too. The Holy Spirit is what tells us. What happened to a good message, uplifting Hymns, quiet time to focus on our worship.

So you hate the Church of today, and yet you're being convicted by the Holy Spirit. That sounds very consistent doesn't lol
