Hi, if i want to buy a new dividend stock , should i buy it only one day before the ex-dividend date in order to get the profit?can i not buy several months before and still get the profit?txx

In order to be ENTITLED to an upcoming dividend, you need to buy the share with a Trade Date at ANY time prior to Ex-Date......whether your trade date is (say) 4 years before, or 1 day before Ex-Date. When you say 'and still get the profit', please note that at the very beginning of the Ex-Date, the share price typically falls by the (per share) value of the dividend. Example: a dividend of $0.50 is declared, on XD-1 the share price is $10.....on XD the market price drops to $9.50 (due to the dividend), on payment date of the dividend the company pays you $0.50. Therefore, on a net basis the buyer has paid $9.50, and the market price is now the same. Note: receipt of a dividend would normally be taxable, dependent upon your national tax rules. If you mean 'Can I sell on the record date anytime and still be ENTITLED to the dividend? Then yes - if you sell with a Trade Date on or after Ex-Date, you retain entitlement to the dividend (providing you bought with a Trade Date prior to Ex-Date). Can i Sale on the ex date on premarket?

From my experience, YES, but only if you can find a party thats willing to trade on the following terms.....you could sell with a Trade Date prior to Ex-Date with a 'Special Ex-Dividend' trade condition. This means that, if you were holding the shares prior to Ex-Date, you would retain entitlement to the dividend. I hope this helps.
