You comment that it is awesome that she has a full orchestra and backing singers - which is quite true, it IS awesome. These performances come from the DVDs of "Classics is Groot" concerts, which are a highlight of the SA musical year; Amira was invited as a guest to the 2016 concert, and sang O mio babbino caro - and got a standing ovation from the audience of 7000; when that died down, she called Patrizio Buanne on stage, they had a little dialog which showed the audience that Amira was fluent in Afrikaans - and they sang "O sole mio" as a duet - another standing ovation. Later in the same concert, she sang "Nella Fantasia"; and she took her part with the rest of the team in the final "My Way". She was invited back in November 2016 to a series of 11 "Afrikaans is groot" concerts, at which she sang "Nella Fantasia". In 2017, she first sang "Nessun Dorma", and then called Corlea Botha on stage and the two of them sang the Flower Duet, from "Lakme" by Delibes. Later in that same concert, she sang "Amazing Grace", which you have reacted to. At the end of that concert, she participated in group performances of "amigos para siempre" and "My Way". The performance of "Gabriella's song" was from the 2018 concert. Later in that concert, she sang "Halleleuja" and then "Amigos para siempra" as a duet with Patrizio; and participated in two group performances. By the 2018 performance, she had been accepted as a full member of the Classics is Groot team. I believe this song called for the weaker lower notes. After seeing some history on the song. The gal had trouble in the movie. She started to sing and later finds her voice. So I believe Amira pulled this off with the full meaning of the song.

If you didnt know, she is singing in Swedish with a very heavy accent. It is called Gabriellas Sång in Swedish and was originally sung by Helen Sjoholm. The song was made for a movie called “så som i himmelen” :) i suggest you react to Helen Sjöholm singing this song :D

The first time Amira was singing with a complete orchestra was in summer 2014 (she was 10 years at the time) with conductor Adré Rieu and in front of an enormous croud (15,000...) in the city of Maastricht (NL). She sang "Amiro babbino caro" and you can clearly hear the difference with her 2013 performence. And dispite all those people looking at here and a complete orchestra behind her you can see that little Amira is totally relaxed on that huge stage and just singing her song, carefully watched and clearly guided through the entire song by conductor André Rieu, followed by a standing ovation from everybody. if you watch any of the interviews over the years with Amira, she acknowledges that in certain areas she is technically 'weak', but it is more important that her singing makes people happy and that it does.... the majority of people, like myself, wouldn't know an A from a B flat... a mezzo soprano to a saxo soprano.... what i do know is this.... when Amira sings.... your emotions are grabbed and stirred.... grown men and women have tears flowing and they cannot explain why.... you can have the most technically correct, the most linguistically correct artist who leaves you 'flat' ..... no matter what Amira sings.... the response is the same... wow.... her HGT audition is going to hit 40 million views very shortly... not bad for a 9 year old, self trained opera singer...

I am fanatical about Amira but there are other classical singers who are also amazing, one such sensational girl is Patricia Janeckova (pronounced yan etch kova). At 12 shook everyone with her version of "Once Upon A Time In The West" written by Ennio Morricone. About 2 years later she sang "Phantom Of The Opera" which was beautiful. She is now 19 and beginning to establish herself on the conventional opera scene rather than crossover.

That's because Amira 'lives' the song - she takes you on a journey when she sings - she takes you with her. There is no comparison between her and singers like Jackie Evancho, Amira is in a class of her own and will become a legend in her own time. She is a true opera singer, not a cross-over. She has always said she loves opera songs.

Definitely nailed it. For each song she sings she researches the lyrics for the meaning of the song, then also listen to other "versions" by other sopranos... That's how she first learned by herself to sing using KZbin videos. And instead to compare to those singers she does, she should compare her with others of her "range", the likes of Kiri te Kanawa, Maria Callas or Hedwig Fassbender... And don't forget that she was only 15 when she sang "Gabriella's Sång"... She's in my opinion the greatest soprano of the beginning of this century, and definitely she'll go really far if she continues... Even in "Bel Canto" she"s amazing, like in her "Amigos para siempre" with Patrizio Buanne, or even more in the "French" opera with her performance in the "Flower duet" from Delibe's Lakme which is by far THE best version of it I ever heard !

It's a song from the Swedish movie "As it Is In Heaven". The song does represent the theme of the movie but is really the denouement of the story. It's about a young women married to an abusive husband and how she finally saves herself thru church and music. I'm not sure if that initial softer breathier lower section wasn't intentional to represent the initial oppresionand reaction of rhe main character as her situation dawned on her. This song had a great impact on Amira and led her to sing it in the original Swedish to stay faithful to the meaning and sound of the original score. The only comparative videos of young singers that I have seen aren't actually valid comparisons but usually made by a rabid fan who will pick the best version by their favorite singer and the absolute worst version of the person they are comparing their "star" too to prove their fav is the best. Rather silly as what they are doing is rather obvious. The other even sillier ones compare young girls to trained male professionals, usually Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma which is even sillier. I think your idea of comparative videos is a good one but you have to be careful. You could be responsible for starting WW lll especially between Amira and Jackie fans, Another singer to include is Patricia Janeckova. She is 19, almost 20 now and is a highly trained singer headed into a career in formal opera, but you could use videos from when she was you,her too and then discuss what the training has done for her. Anyway, great reaction. I am a big fan of Amira and I was of Jackie initially, but as Amiras voice has begun to mature and Jackies management has decided to add reverb to her live performances and recordings I have become.e a more avid fan of Amira. There is just something in the tone of her voice that seems to grab you attention and evoke strong emotion in the listener. Thanks again, and I look forward to your comparisons, I think they would be very interesting and informative even if it does spark a war.

It bears mentioning that Jackie never had a voice coach and her voice has not progressed over the years. The voices of young vocalists often fade over time. Their fans hold onto them though and seem not to notice. Especially with Jackie because the 'Christian angel' spin she's always gotten causes her religious fans to worship her as having a 'true gift from God'. Good to see that Amira is not following that religious path. Although it has to be said that Jackie is a multi millionaire today because her handlers milked the religious angle for all it was worth.

Believe it or not, you are one of my favorite reaction video people, Georgina. I try to pick up your critique on Amira, but honestly, I can't for the life of me hear weak notes in her lower range. This song, sung in Swedish, is of a downtrodden woman, horribly abused by her husband. She overcame because of her Church and Music. I have listened to the original artist who sang this and she also is somewhat "weak" in her lower notes, however, that is way the song is supposed to be sung. It is supposed to give the listener a feeling that the woman is at the end, defeated. The song progresses in stages of weak, strong and then triumphant. This song is actually based on a true story, a movie ensued. Amira sings it beautifully and performed it in an opera format. The original is not in Opera. I watched another video reaction from Petra, from Sweden, this performance by Amira almost brought her to tears. Some of your remarks are quite humorous to me, such as how special it would be to be young and have a full orchestra behind you....I have been a witness to such a request and I wanted to go deaf with the result. No, but for a little 13 year old girl I think her performance is astounding. I am curious to see where Amira's voice ends up as far as her range. At the age of 12 when she was in that sweet spot leading up to her finally evolving into her mature voice she very easily sang up to Eb6 and even hit an F# 6. Since then my understanding is her vocal coach recommended that she back off exploiting her high range until her voice matured.. Listening to Gabriellas Sang I would have possibly thought Mezzo myself but I think maybe her range will be extended well beyond that. Thanks again, keep up the good work, a pleasure to listen to an adult whose is a coach who is sensitive to the position of child singers and makes careful, explicit comments while recognizing where they are and should be in their vocal development as opposed to noting their failure to compare to a highly trained professional opera singer or other famous singer with 15 or 20 years of experience. I noticed that you classified her as a mezzo soprano. It's what you do for living, but we watched all videos of her. She can reach a lot of high notes and low notes now. Her range is very wide. In a way that we believe that she is one of a kind singer. Mezzo Soprano is not enough to describe her voice.

Almost a year ago we had the discussion in Amira's Facebook fan group 'Amira Willighagen:Fans' if she will be a soprano or mezzo soprano (what I thought) in the future. Already then her voice was getting richer and fuller in the lower range. But then we became convinced that she will most likely be a 'soprano assoluto'. Dear vocal coach, Amira s mother is from South Africa and when Amira won the big contest in the Netherlands when she was 9 years old, she wanted to perform, especially when she had the Highschool age. In the Netherlands that is very restricted because attending school is mandatory. In South Africa the laws for attending school are not so strict so she emigrated there. And because she is very popular there and in many more country’s she performs in many big shows. I think she is about 18 years when she performs Gabriella s song in Swedish, which is a very difficult language for us Dutch people. The song is from a movie about a chior and its conductor titled “As it is in heaven”, a very moving and spiritual movie you MUST SEE. The song is about a battered woman and very good performed by Amira, for being so young, she really felt the song and so did we, her fans.

Amira is just a wonderful singer. She looks a bit older here than in some other videos where she sing Gabriellas sång. I like that she does it in this more operatic way then the original with Helen Sjöholm in her role as Gabriella. Such a sweet young child could never do that role of an abused and traumatized woman anyway, so its better to just do the song with a nice arrangement and beautyful operatic voice. Love it.

If I may add a small point - re your comment that she's becoming a mezzo-soprano - are you aware of the microphone proximity effect? She is using a form of microphone that has to be held very close to the singer's mouth - all the artists on the Coleske Artists concerts use them. Such a close-held microphone tends to amplify low pitch sounds preferentially; I suspect that the low notes may have benefitted somewhat from this. Of course, her lower range may still be extending as well. We'll know more in due course.

Dear vocal coach. I think Amira is a Soprano Assoluto. This song is being presented by Amira with softer depressed lower notes initially showing feelings as an abused wife? for the films story - gradually gaining confidence through the song as in the Film. All sung in Swedish.This demonstrates Amira`s genius in presenting this also with Soprano Assoluto range. You mentioned comparatives - I suggest Laura Bretan, Patricia Janeckova, Jackie Evancho - not Hayley Westernra who seems to be moving away from this of genre Classical/ Crossover but I might be wrong here. It is difficult to find one song for all. Ave Maria (Caccini) can cover but at quite big age differences which must be taken into consideration.

Amira is singing a very touching song in Swedish. It is ten years "old" and I find it surprizing if you heard it now for the first time. Nearly got an Oscar. Singer in the movie Helen Sjöholm I find Amira as the greatest star among the young female singers. Maybe a bit too classical when compared with Jackie Evancho but with an extreme voice range. Close to Sissel Kirkjeboe.

No need for comparisons more a bouquet. That would be acceptable. Amira may be a mezzo-soprano in the field of voices but I think she's a bit different though. She has a breathy voice. I can listen to her and not get annoyed. For me in the end that's a winner. Hours. For any kind of musical style. Some are really really annoying. But not Amira. One word description of Amira is fresh.

Vocal Coach. Here is another idea to go along with yours. Take a singer like Jackie or Amira and take performances over the years and highlites the changes that have occurred and where you think they need work etc. That would be very interesting also. You could talk about weaknesses and if and how they addressed them over time.

But she had to have nodule surgery and it took her years of work so she could sing again. Oh, and I know you can't react to this: it's too long. But, the American Public Broadcasting Service's music show, "Tiny Desk Concerts", just featured an insanely gifted young Spanish/Catalan woman singing her own compositions, which are literally poetry set to beautiful music. In the comments section below her clip, I lost track of how many people not only raved about her but also said that they'd never heard anything like her. PBS put English subtitles in so that you can understand what she's saying, which is purely magical, but the music alone is also wonderful. I become completely emotional when Amira sings she is the Best..I know you are a voice coach but, I am tired of you finding something little about her performance and bringing it out..She isn't perfect but she is 14 at this concert..I have followed her since she 9 on "Hollands got Talent" which she won..She was at first self taught off of KZbin and after a couple of years and much acclaim she got a vocal coach..Now it is History, I have followed Jacki Evanco and her rise then cross over..Laura Bretan who is a very under rated singer, and a newer girl who competed and went to the Grand Finals of "Spain's got Talent" where she sang one of the best versions of "Over the Rainbow" I have ever heard, her name is Arianna Moia. She was 15 at the time of the show she too is under rated..So out of all these only 2 stand out and bring tears to my eyes they are 1-Amira and 2- Arianna take a listen to Arianna and see how effortlessly she sings opera..Thank you..

You mentioned Jackie Evancho...I've always thought she was a Soprano...but now I hear people say she's a Mezzo. I like Katherine Jenkins-when she sings pop-she cannot sing opera, her vibrato is horrible. She's a Mezzo. idk about Westenra but she might be Mezzo. Is Lucy Thomas a Mezzo or a Soprano? I'm pretty sure Lucy Kay Allen is a Soprano. What about Danelyia Tuleshova? There are many more of these young phenoms and I'll try to remember them as I search youtube. What do you think of that young Siberian singer with the weird voice? Can't think of her name right now. Oh another precocious young singer comes to mind but I KNOW she's a Soprano; 11 year old Emanne Beasha from Jordan, now living in Florida USA. I believe Amira is a Soprano and all her fans think so too but we could be wrong. She has an excellent alto/contralto range but also a wonderful soprano range which we hear on this song. What I do know is she brings me to tears.

BORED, BORED What? I'll advise you to look at Jackie Evancho, her voice is beautiful but there's no oomph or life in it. Everything's on the same level, now that's boring. I always want to wind her up with a key. Everything's an effort. Amira by contrast is completely different oomph and life in bucket loads with no effort at all.....

Its sounds to me as if Amira is entering a voice change phase. That's why things sound a little thin and forced. Its not easy for the child prodigies. Each and everyone has to face the reality of voice change which can be vey pronounce in women or at least more than most understand. You could do a before and after on Evancho to show case the female voice change.
