This is a classic song that doesn’t really receive the recognition that it definitely deserves. Many people consider the Honey Cone a one hit wonder after WANT ADS but soul purists know better. Thank you for this.

It's also got the added joy of featuring two Willem who were also in the legendary backup group, The Blossoms (in total, there were appx 20 women who were Blossoms), and the reason was very simple; they were in such high demand, they couldn't possibly work all the sessions, AND also not cause irritable coal damage, so they were all able to give that gorgeous vocal sound the Blossoms had. Ms Darlene Love's sister's Edna, and she worked under the real last name, Wright. The Wright/Love sister's voices are so unmistakable - Edna sounds so close to Darlene just a slightly higher pitch.

The history behind this song is that the trio was reluctant to record it at first, but they were eventually persuaded to lay it down once and for all. This version is better because it should not have been broken into two parts

Robert Amons it's because the so called singers of today rely on computerized garbage like autotune, thinking that's what makes them singers! There was a great plethora of girl groups like Honey Cone and The Supremes who relied on actual singing! This was what made the 70's much better! I recently got this on vinyl and am waiting for the CD to arrive! There'll never be another Edna Wright again..
