Thank you. I’ve been watching bee videos for a couple of months & you’re the first person to show the whole harvest process in a video

Recently started viewing your videos - *a small suggestion* - take a small 1-2 gallon bucket filled with very warm water with JUST 2-3 DROPS of detergent - keep a hand towel or dish towel on a small hook just under the tabletop - this way you can always keep your hands and inevitably your equipment from being sticky - wiping with just a dry paper towel or napkin only creates a stickier mess

Great video! I just found your channel and i like how in depth you went on the extracting process. The St. Elmo's Fire song playing at the end was awsome too. One of my top 5 80s songs😁

It would also be a good idea to open the gate while the extractor is running. That will prevent honey getting in the bottom bearing on the spinning basket.

That's some good looking honey! WHat flower source do you think it is? Multiple sources?

Thank you very much! I believe the lighter honey to be maple, black locust, and bush honeysuckle. I think the darker came from tulip poplar. Thanks for watching!!!

First time to find your channel. I’m a new beekeeper and you showed me a lot about how to pull honey. I would like to know where you got table and small blower. Thanks for info. Very informative

The leaf blower I just purchased off Amazon but it currently shows unavailable. I’m sure you can find something similar. The uncapping tub can be found here on Dadant’s site. www.dadant.com/catalog/deluxe-uncapping-tub-kit?gad=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4YbR1JuggAMV0TzUAR1iMAuCEAQYASABEgIfOPD_BwE Thanks for watching!!!!

Good video. You might try a sawing motion with the uncapping knife. Also go a bit faster so as not to cool the knife and overheat the surface honey. For years, I used only a blower to remove bees. I now use a fume board as you do. What worked beat for me was to start at one side and blow up and down (between frames) let's call that vertical. Then switch 90 degrees (horizontal) across the ones already blown vertical and do that a few times as I progressed across the super. What the switch to "horizontal" did was surprise the bees that held on during the vertical sweep. I always blew from the bottom bars. Another experiment that you might try is using 8 frames in your production supers. That gives you a really thick comb that is really easy to uncap. For 8 frames they must be drawn comb and equally spaced. I run 9 frames if foundation and 8 is drawn comb. Keep up the good work!!

Why did you pull your supers so early? Supers looked half full and frames weren't fully capped.
@beesintheweeds
@beesintheweeds Жыл бұрын
I do two pulls down here in Kentucky. We get an early spring flow and then typically we get a late summer flow. It’s ideal to pull and extract in between. And when the honey was measuring around ~14%, regardless of capped or uncapped, it was definitely time to extract. That’s some THICK honey. 😊

Thanks for the kind words. My audience is about 50/50 on the time issue. Haha. Many have commented they want it held to about 20 minutes, others have stated they want the full video even if it’s an hour. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I think this is why you see a lot of KZbin creators do part 1’s and part 2’s. I may try that going forward for the longer videos. I do really appreciate feedback! Thanks for watching!!

Hi , i watched your video while making a research on simple and less expensive equipments for honey extraction. Yours looked very appealing to me. Can you please tell me the name and price of the different equipment needed for this process. Please be informed that i have no idea on the honey business. Im interested in the business and i just want to know the cost of establishing one.

Hello! I have added the primary equipment list to the description of the video. To get started in beekeeping you can expect to spend about a thousand dollars. I have intros videos here that you might find useful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGjJlIqCn7Z9gassi=J66bLoSpAA-0BO_n kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYLdnHmcm9iUeassi=OBcofNevfnHn7q3e Hope this helps and best of luck with your research!

Are you sure it's a nectar source difference causing the color variation? It sure looks like you've had brood in those frames before which would cause that as well.
@beesintheweeds
@beesintheweeds Жыл бұрын
This was the first year I allowed the queens to lay in the supers (won’t be doing that again). I suppose it’s possible one round of brood through a super could cause some minor discoloration but I’ve never heard of it. Also, not every queen laid in the supers. If I was a betting man I would say the brood had little to no impact on the color.

Question as to why you didn’t close the little holes on the supers while you had the fume boards on. No disrespect intended.
@beesintheweeds
@beesintheweeds Жыл бұрын
None taken! A fume board works best with air flow. So you want the air to move through the super rather than it be air tight and stagnant. Leaving the holes open along with the corners at the top, allows air to move through the super and permeate the fumes. Good question!

Thank you for posting the video. In eastern Europe dark honey ( buckwheat honey) is preferred more so than light honey. More health benefits. Peace. 🪰
