My friend who is a bee keeper had about 2 hundred of those frames in his living room and an enormous extraction machine in his dining room plus the bottling area... trying to keep up with the hive production.. He has hives scattered throughout Liverpool and the honey produced has 4 distinct colours and flavours depending on the areas the hives are and the flowers the bees have been visiting... I got some comb honey from him last week.. It is so delicious... What started out as a hobby, years ago is now 60 hours a week work.. but he is so happy..

Yeah this was just off one hive. Next year we will have plenty more, we have some very big news coming up so keep tuned

An old cheesecloth can also be used for the straining. I also find that a paint scraper works a bit better than a spoon for cutting the comb from the frames.

Great video. I am going to try this crush method for the wax cappings that came off my frames. Thank you from America

It really is amazing to see how the different flowers create different colours in the honey. Is there a huge difference in the taste as well, and do you have a favourite? Would love to know. Great video as always mate. All the best.

That was my favourite time of year, but sadly our bees died in the winter, all 3 colonies. When we harvested ours, we used a clear storage box that had been steam sterilized, so much easier than a bowl.

Yeah it is but for the video there was no room for a large tub. shame you lost your bees

Interesting. Is there any difference in flavour between the two different coloured honeys?
@simplifygardening

there is a sleight difference but if you have oil seed rape or Heather they taste different again

If you heat the honey while crush and straining it, will this ruin the honey? I was running into problems with a spinning extractor. The frames were so heavy that when I went to spin them, that the combs were just breaking up and it ended up being easier to crush and strain. So this prompted me to ask about effects of heat on the honey. Thanks.

This is why some use plastic foundation but warming the honey will help

I had a message from are bee keepers saying there are only 14 jars of honey left, if anyone requires any, first come first served, That was yesterday, There all gone now lol...Each jar cost £5 the money is plugged straight back into the bee to acquire more hives, Interesting to see how you extracted the honey, what will you do with the wax? Tony

The wax will be rendered I have a few black bag of it and produce pure beeswax at which point it can be sold or made into other products. Il make a video of that too.

oh my me and my little girl watched this and was mesmorized by all that honey spilling out the frame. amazing. roughly how much honey does each hive produce?
@simplifygardening
@simplifygardening 8 жыл бұрын
That depends on what the weather was like and how strong the colony is. this wasnt a great colony but still produces just over 45lb
