I guess I could see boring. Personally I think zoning is when the game is most tense. There's mindgames of trying to jump when you think he's gonna shoot, or charge with lvl 2 venom when you think he has a read otherwise. Up close still has the mindgames with stagger and whatnot, but less so. Using a bomb over and over is about the same visually as using a plus string over and over. KP1 Kung lao was string into hat and looped until death. It is a lot more fun to play then to watch though.

The games are so different I don't think it's a fair comparison. The only two characters with projectiles to zone are Eliza and Akuma iirc, so if there was zoning it would only be with those two characters. That and sidestepping exists which nullifies the projectiles really, so you can only throw out one or two. Comparing a 3D fighter and a 2D fighter is like comparing Diablo to Injustice. It's easier to get loot in Diablo so it's a better game.

Zoning is not spam. Red Hood does shit tier damage without meter and bane is one of the most damaging characters in the game with an unblockable. command grab that has great range. Therefor Red Hood has to use his bombs to build meter AND keep Bane at a distance(where he is by far the better character up close) in order to be viable in this match up. Telling sonic to fight at a supreme disadvantage is called being stupid(might as well not use the character). They both are two of the top 10 pros in this game. The reason its so effective for him is because Biohazard(one of the best in this game as well) has to respect all of sonics other capabilities with the character. People were universally disappointed with Red Hood on release. If you want to see lower tiered characters in action at the highest level of competition(which these two guys definitely are) then you better prepare yourself to see them used properly for that purpose

SonicFox played Red Hood versus a Bane perfectly. Full screen him and then when he had the time for a high combo, he capitalized. As a Bane player, he has quite a few bad matchups with other fighters who can fill screen him.

Something you should be doing to Red Hood while he's in the corner is 112d or 113 because it beats out both of Red hoods wakeups (the db3 and df3 since df3 has little to no invincibility.) even if the db3 is meterburned you still catch them out of it and it wastes red hoods meter still.

I love how according to some people if you find zoning boring it means you don't understand it. I've been playing and watching fighting games for over 15 years. I know goddamned well what zoning is, and why it's useful in matches, doesn't mean I have to find it entertaining. Doesn't mean I have to think that NRS' particular brand of zoning makes for a good ratio of keep away to rush down gameplay. Personally, I think the ratio is off. Doesn't mean it doesn't take skill, doesn't mean it's not a valid strategy. It means outside of a few characters I find it boring. Simple as that.

I think its good to play however you want to win when you play competitively. I don't mind zoners as it is NRS job to keep zoning balanced, not the player's job to not use a strategy that will help them win. The game in general has a lot of ridiculous zoning, where many players will simply just walk back constantly (or lunge back lol) whereas players should be encouraged by the game to actually fight each other and zone when there happens to be distance.

Bio's Bane is a joy to watch. What's up with the comments? I don't even see many complaining about Sonic's zoning but I see lots of people complaining about the people complaining.
