I'm not surprised that a brand that isn't Hershey's won. Hershey's uses a process that adds (IMHO) a super gross flavor to it, kind of sour? I thought I disliked chocolate for so long since Hershey's is used for a bunch of "european" brands in the US (looking at you, Cadbury). My coworkers thought I was nuts when I turned down a Hershey Kiss in favor of a baby carrot. I would bet that Mr. Beast uses a chocolate without butyric acid. It's REALLY hard to find a brand in the US that doesn't have that flavor.

A lot of European (i know mainly German ones) youtubeers tried the mister Beast chocolate and a lot of them describe the taste as like the very cheap store brand chocolate from discounters(think ALDI) or a bit worse.

That might explain why I don't like American chocolates. As an European who has visited US before, I have to respectfully say that American chocolates are not tasty. Hershey tastes like plastic to me (I don't really taste the cocoa flavor) and I did not enjoy the other brands that I tried as well (and I am not a picky person). Hershey exist in certain candy shops in my country but I rarely see anyone buying it and it often ends in discount section, since our Norwegian Freia chocolate is much more tastier.

Some people say Hershey makes chocolate to fit American taste, but I don't know anyone who would say Hershey tastes better than Lindt. I've never heard of Freia but I bet it is good!!

So I usually don't side with youtuber products since a lot of them seem to just be useless and money grabs, (I'd rather just donate cash). As far as Max's Jerky compared to JackLinks, I'd say that Max's looks more homemade and natural compared to the commercially produced Jacklinks. If you have not had homemade beef jerky before you would immediately pick up on the toughness, since the ways to preserve food naturally are, salted, dried, smoked, fermented, lacto fermented, and then using sodium nitrate and nitrite. I looked at the ingredients for both Max's jerky and Jacklinks and I believe that Max's resembles homemade jerky. Jacklinks jerky uses pineapple powder as a tenderizing agent and then uses cultured celery extract as a curing agent. Cultured celery extract is the same thing as sodium nitrate and nitrite but can be called natural due to how it is produced. The ingredients in Max's jerky lead me to believe that his jerky is shelf stable due to the salt and the hydration levels of the jerky and that he uses fermented black beans which are a lower in ph level which could also lower the ph of the jerky depending on the amount used. In the end jacklinks is more tender because it can be dried to a higher hydration since it's been cured (with nitrates and nitrites) and tenderized. If you really wanted to make Max's jerky more tender you could put it in a container and put a damp paper towel on it in a covered container for several hours up to 24 while in the fridge. It will not be shelf stable any longer but will have less chew than it did fresh out of the bag.

I love sour candy but it’s never sour enough for me. I buy citric acid at the grocery store and can control how sour I want my candy. Be careful with it, of course, because too much can hurt your mouth, but I love my sour patch kids, etc, to actually be sour.

There is still some value in a blindfold test. Your brain forms an overall taste perception based on what you see, smell, hear and what you remember about a food. So if you can't see the food it can trick your brain into perceiving it differently, maybe more objectively. This is not always the case but I think that's fine enough for a youtube video. There are some studies on it too if you look.
