The Honeywell 5816 is the most popular Honeywell sensor as it is the cheapest. It has a dual function, with its ability to act as a wired to wireless sensor transmitter via its terminals. In this video Sterling shows an end-user how to program the Honeywell 5816 wireless door and window sensor to the Honeywell wireless security system. What I'd REALLY like to know is how to program this alarm to call my cell phone instead of calling the alarm company, so I can monitor the home alarm that I bought rather than having $40 per month extorted from me for a service I do not want.

Great vid, so a question as you guys seem as knowledgeable as I have seen yet. I have an older type of alarm at my house, standard keypad with hardwired everything. I want to update and use what I have and add wireless to new reno doors/windows. Will the 5200 do this or do I have to change everything to wireless? Also what is the range when considering outer buildings? My current system has the panel in the basement, DSC maybe? 15 years old or so.

I have a sensor that was going to 2 windows using the wires on the blue terminal. I changed windows and only need the sensor with the magnet. How do I change my sensor to recognize only the magnet and remove the wires. I removed the wires and could not get the sensor to recognize just the magnet.

great video, i just bought the 5816 but my issue is a little different than a new install. I am replacing a door sensor. One of our door sensors was thrown away when we changed out a door but the magnet is still on the door jam. What are the steps of replacing the current door sensor that is faulting because it is no longer there and do i need to replace the magnet or can i use the current magnet installed? Thanks for your help.

Just delete the zone then it will say new again. The magnet can stay.

If you have an interior door (such as an office door) you want armed that if activated you want the alarm to immediately sound in away mode for, but not set the alarm off in stay mode, would you program it as an interior follower or something else?

This is correct, I do believe you'll need to set the device type as 'Other' first but setting the response type as 'Interior Follwer' is the way to go.

Is there any bright light to let me know my system is armed? I currently have an ADEMCO 5828V keypad in the garage but the little red light is difficult to see . Just wonder if there's any way to tell if the system is armed?

If you wish to stream cameras to the L5200, then only the legacy (Non-HD) Honeywell IPCAMS are supported. Most of these cameras are discontinued, but they were the IPCAM-PT, IPCAM-PT2, IPCAM-WL, IPCAM-WO, and IPCAM-WI, and IPCAM-WI2.

Once I enter my installer code I dont have option to program. In fact the menu that comes up is completely different than yours

If you see a screen with Users, Events, etc, you used your panel's Master Code instead of the Installer Code. The default IC is 4112 but it may have been changed. We explain the different codes at kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHemh4ibr8mrZ5Y and if you don't know your IC, you can get into programming through a back door option following the instructions at www.alarmgrid.com/faq/how-do-you-reset-the-installer-code-on-a-honeywell-l5200-wireles.

Yes, in theory. This usually works better with portable devices, such as a one-way keyfob, which isn't supervised for check in.

The L5200 is no longer available. I'd suggest going with the L7000 if you wanted to get a lynx panel, or go with the newer Lyric panel.

I'm sorry the video wasn't more clear. A 5816 sensor can be used as a door contact with a magnet or it can also be used as a wireless pass-through transmitter with a wired contact wired into the 5816 internal screw contacts. In that setup, the wired contact/magnet would send the signal to the 5816 and it woudl just act as a "wireless transmitter" to send the wired alarm signal back to the wireless Honeywell system. I hope this helps explain it better and if you have any other questions, please let us know.
