Thanks for the info. I’ve been cleaning my Honeywell HPA 201 for years. Any idea on how to get dust out of top inside of the grills/slats? I attempted to take off top but caused little dents on plastic so gave up. I’m not sure it comes apart. It’s not too dusty but could be cleaned.

Just went through this with my 90 year old mother. Cleaned everything, and had a home inspection done including MOLD testing. We discovered through inspections she had mold at a moderate level. Enough to cause her health issues, and memory issues. Black mold is very bad especially for elders. If your elders are having issues, get the mold level checked.

@joannaquanttumphysics Oh man you have been there I can tell. My mom was in full on dementia, until we had the mold problem fixed. Thanks for your review but we have to disagree on one comment you made in the video. While yes, the IQAir is a fantastic air purifier and one of the highest quality for people with allergies and asthmatics, this Honeywell HPA300 air purifier is still a great option for people with those conditions. The IQAir is very expensive ($800) and covers more than 1,000 square feet. For someone who wants to clean the air in a room that's less than 465 square feet, the HPA 300 ($200) is a wonderful choice because of the high quality True HEPA filters. Honeywell also makes an HPA200 and HPA100 for even small spaces at a cheaper cost.

Having a bagless vacuum only feeds an air purifier when it's emptied. If I'm going to clean my filters, I'll use my Miele, glad you mentioned it. I use my Miele to clean the pre-filter on my Oransi MAX AP that is performing very well. Set against a far wall, it provides circulation of air like you mentioned your Honeywell does. I leave mine on automatic, the first time I heard the fan increase speed, I wondered if my house was on fire! It had picked a nearby odor and was clearing it! Well after that I knew it was doing its job...

I live in small 920 sq ft home I have ONE HPA 200 and TWO HPA 100 throughout my home. I've never had that much build up. I highly suggest you purchase another air purifier. Normally there is a red light that tells you when you need to replace the filters in these Air Purifiers. Also, the charcoal sheets are cheaper if you purchase them in the large sheet and cut them to fit since they have to replaced ever 4 month. (If I were you I'd replace the charcoal filter monthly)

I have a quick question please, say If I use two carbon pre filters at the same time (put them in the place of one) will it filter out odor better. I have cooking odor issues hence this question
@jjs777fzr4 жыл бұрын
This filter is just a cheap carbon filter. Its really not going to do much to rid your area of odors even if doubling up on the filter. A step up would be to use a unit that contains pelletized carbon like the Winix 5500-2. If you really want to get serious with filtering odors you’d go for the expensive Alen Breathesmart which uses some factor better charcoal/carbon filter.

What vacuums do you recommend for allergy sufferers? Per dander, dust, etc. I have a Hepa vacuum but it's bagless. I heard you say you don't recommend bagless so I'm just curious. Thanks.
@FantomLightning4 жыл бұрын
Miele. I don't think you'll find much else better in terms of filtration. The problem with HEPA filters is they have to be tested to a certain standard, however they aren't tested while in the vacuum. So the vacuum can leak dust anywhere around that filter. Miele is very strict about insuring their machines are sealed and all air goes through the HEPA filter before being exhausted.

What is the best air purifier for reducing dust?
@DeniseEggertwaterlily3 жыл бұрын
I have had moderate to severe well controlled on multiple oral and inhaled medications prescribed only by my allergist at an AIR Specialty of my Health Care System since 1989. I carry two Epipens with me everywhere. I have nasal rhinitis , skin allergies, and food allergies , as well. I was worked up and tested for every allergies. I could never go all the way up to 100% on my allergies shots, including wasp, even with epi rinses. They finally stopped because of reactions. I have to watch what I eat, what I wash with and what I wash my clothes with. Everything I use is hypoallergenic. I have to do wet dusting. I use a newShark Vacuum Cleaner with hepafiltration which works well. I had anewer Kirby Vacumn which was completely broken by my brother in law afteronly 6 months. It wasn't built as sturdy as the older ones, and it broke easily I was also not a fan at having to change multiple heads, and attachments. I am not a full time housefrau. I actually was sold an expensive German Top of the Line vacum machine with with a battery operated head / vacummn,separate from the rest of the hepafilter machine. I bought this German Vacumn Cleaner from an older vacumn cleaner repairman for $ 700.00 on sale, who also sold vacumn cleaners in his repair shop. When it stopped working after the second time I used it , I piled my vacumn cleane in its original box with the saleslip and store warranty and took it back to the vacumn repair shop , a few towns away. In that short period of time, the older repairman went out of business and sold his shop to a younger man, who also repaired vacumn cleaners and sewing machines. The business had even changed names. I wondered why the phone number I called didn't work. The new owner told me that the older man tricked me because that German vacumn cleaner was sold by a German vacumn cleaner company which doesn't do business in the U.S. anymore, and might even have gone out of business. I had to throw the vacumn cleaner away. There was no way to get the missing battery head made for that macjhine or any parts or bags if i needed them. This was before the Internet, etc. The young guy said that others were coming back with other cleaners that the owner had sold them on discount that didn't work either , and they were foreign. . The young man told me that he wasn't going to sell me a vacumn cleaner. ( I had already had the newer Kirby break completely broken apart by my brother in law.) He showed me a group pf vacumn cleaner that he was either cleaning or repairing. He told me, " these are your good brand vacumn cleaners which hold up and can easily be cleaned and repaired because one can get the parts to replace parts and that they are worth being serviced. He also showed a small group of steamcleaners that he was also cleaning and fixing. He told me that these brands were the best steam cleaners, well made and that they were worth having them cleaned , serviced , and repaired, because they lasted a long time and one could easily get parts to replace their parts. I have used the Shark Upright Hepafilter Vacumn for my rugs. I have the smaller Shark hepa vacumn with hose and small attachments to use on areas, furniture, and places were my regular upright vacumn won't go. I was trained by my Asthma Support Group and my allergist to wet dust because I have asthma. I have always bought the same exact air purifiers that are in all of the Allergy Offices and in the exam rooms in the practice where I have seen my allergists, and also where I have gone for pulmonary function tests by my pulmonologists who work with my allergists. They have always used large Honeywell Hepafilter air purifiers. I have used Claritin allergy brand pillow protectors under my pillow cases and have used the Claritin brand allergy mattress protector under my mattress topper and sheets. I never use cotton blankets because they collect dust. Every product i use is hypoallergenic. One would think it was odd that I have functioned as a fulltime R.N. There is a huge percentage of surgeons,surgical RNs and surgical technicians who have all developed a severe latex allergy. Some of them had life threatening reactions, when I worked in the operating room for six months. I wasn't allergic to latex, but I realized that an R.N. that I began to precept in the emergency department, suddenly became faint and short of breath, and i saw the red ring at the top of her gloves. I quickly pushed her on an empty stretcher, got the gloves off of her and started washing her hands and wrist in cold soapy water. put oxygen on her and we started treating her immediately. with IM EPI and IV medications with an ED physician, whom I called out for.. So many healthcare workers from surgeon and physician to R.N. to L.P.N. to tech to aide and other staff have developed such a severe allergy to latex, that entire healthcare systems had to change to only nitrile gloves, nitrile tourniquets, nitrile used in all health equipment. We started having to use hypoallergenic soap in all of the dispensers. They even had hypoallergenic soap and shampoo in the decon showers at CDP/ FEMA, when I trained there. The more staff use latex, the more prone they are to develop a latex allergy. The more you use a certain type of soap over and over, and over, the more likely you are to develop an allergy. Latex exam gloves weren't used until the 1980s. if a physician or someone else was doing a specific non sterile exam, he or she pulled out a pair of wrapped sterile gloves. Needless to say, there wasn't the use of exam gloves for everything until the 1980s. Unless is was a sterile procedure needing sterile gloves, one used one's bare hands for everything and then washed them. I can remember 3 hospitals which trained nurses how to do major sterile dressing changes without using ( wasting?) sterile gloves . the nurse had to make a cuff at the edge of the cloth sterile field one unwrapped . One had to take every sterile clamp, scissors, etc. by the handle or finger grips, and place the handles or fingergrips on the outside cuff , because they shouldn't be on the sterile field. All of the new dressings and bandages had to be opened up a specific way and dumped into the middle of the sterile field with only touching the outside wrapper, which was discarded. One turned the sterile metal bowl over with one of one;s sterile clamps and placed it to the edge of the sterile field, away from the gauze squares to dip into the solution to clean the surgical wound and drains and the gauze dressings.and abdominal pad you placed over the surgical wound, when done. The solution to clean the wound was poured by someone else - or one poured the solution from the edge of the table carefully. One developed very good manual dexerity from this. Most heakthworkers who developed latex allergies, had only used latex gloves for ten years in their training or profession., by the mid to late 1990s.

Also, Do you know if the Honeywell Air Purifier is made in the USA? I was looking at the Whirlpool on Amazon and then someone said that Whirlpool farmed it out to a China mfr and the quality nosedived and destroyed its reputation for being quiet. Is this true about Honeywell as well?

I ran my air purifier in my apartment for about 6 months. I had an allergen mold not black mold but still a professional test said the apartment had mold. they pulled the dry wall off and treated but it leaked immediately and it was never completely fixed. My question is can I safely use the air purifier in the new rental house that is pretty new built in 2018. I don't want to contaminate the house any more than what piggy backed already on stuff if the air purifier is contaminated now. The customer service person told me it would be fine just doing surface cleaning but it was one of those overseas call centers.

Honestly I can't say with certainty one way or another. But I myself would be very weary of using it again unless I had taken everything completely apart and soaked it in something that would kill any possible mold spores that may be left. If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. kzbin.infoUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

Best cheap vacuum for that duty would be the bagged Bissell PowerForce from Walmart. It's around $45, and while they don't officially make HEPA filtration bags for it, you can purchase Hoover type Y HEPA bags that will fit. There really isn't anything much smaller or inexpensive that will have decent filtration.

Hello there, I am currently on a market for an air purifier but I want to start off with something that is budget-friendly so does Honeywell have some cheaper alternatives to this model?
@FantomLightning7 жыл бұрын
Honestly it depends on how much area you need to cover. Honeywell has cheaper models the HPA100, and HPA200 that cover 155 sq ft and 310 sq ft respectively. The HPA300 covers 465 sq ft. If there's a specific area you want to cover measure and see which model you would need. You can put a purifier in an area larger than it's rated for, it just won't exchange the air as many times and be less effective.

Actually, IQAir does not seem to provide better air filtration than the Honeywell. According to IQair specifications, the main filter they use (they brand it as "HyperHEPA") is actually a True HEPA filter (aka USA HEPA), meaning it retains 99.97% for 0.3 mcm particles. The particles of this size are the most difficult to retain for HEPA systems and, hence, this size is used to classify the filters (smaller and larger particles are usually easier to retain). The Honeywell uses filter of exactly the same class. The IQAir does have a remote, is well advertised and they charge way more for the replacement filters but when it comes to filtration it does not seem to provide better results. To sum up, I don't feel like paying extra $600 for the remote. But, hey, everybody is different )

The biggest difference is that one IQ Air has a much better sealed in filter system. The filters aren't as flimsy as what come in this giving the possibility for air and dust to escape around. Also, the IQ Airs cover a much larger area. You'd need three of these to cover the area a base IQ Air does. As I said in the review, the filters will also last longer as they're much larger. If you want/need the best IQ Air is it, these do a respectable job, but they have to make certain cuts to meet their price point.

The IQAir has a design issue where it release a strange carbon and plastic chemical smell after only using for 6 months. I had two different one do it. Looking at the current reviews seems like a common issue. I just glad I take my birds with me to work. But had to mop and clean everything to get rid of strange pretty strong chemical sweet carbon odor. I no longer trust The IQAir unit. It a shame as did was to well before releasing strange odor and seem well built and sealed correctly. I took care of it and kept it clean. I now use rabbit air purifier and a 3m purifier. With some research I found out that the most likely issue is "Formaldehyde, and its cousin, Acetaldehyde" take a look at this article: www.air-purifier-power.com/formaldehyderemovalpurifiers.html

@V SIlberstein. Yes, it is interesting that on IQAir's own downloadable specification pdf, they don't make the extra claim that retailers like Amazon are making that HyperHEPA can do '99.5% at 0.003 microns'. However I did find a similar claim hidden away here www.iqair.com/international/health-pro-series-support-tech-specs when describing 'Total system efficiency', rather than the efficiency of the HyperHEPA filter itself. I think the higher system efficiency figure is down to a better sealed system that FantomLightning referred to. Regardless, I don't think they are convinced that the '99.5% at 0.003 microns' is a extraordinary claim because don't they make a song and dance about it and make it front and centre of their sales pitch on their own website. Perhaps they did make the claim front and centre originally but had to dial it back when their Hyperhepa filter was independently tested but the retailers simply 'forgot' to update the description? If there is nothing special about the HyperHEPA filter itself, the high prices for these replacement filters are not justified. HyperHEPA have a H13 rating but there are others that have a higher H14, U15, U16 and U17 rating, the latter having 99.999995 efficiency. www.globalspec.com/learnmore/manufacturing_process_equipment/filtration_separation_products/hepa_filters_ulpa_filters

I’Q air claims to pick up airborne particles up to 0000.3 microns way smaller than than the typical 0.3 in other words viruses and harmful bacteria’s that cheaper air purifier wouldn’t pick up .

It's never a good idea to buy generic filters, especially when it's about air purifiers. Even though they're a bit expensive, you should always buy OEM filters because the filtration quality is not the same.
@FantomLightning6 жыл бұрын
I'll have to disagree with you there. Regardless of industry when it comes to filters be it for air purifiers, vacuums or cars most OEs do NOT make any filters branded with their name. Vacuums are an especially good example where probably a good 90%+ of filters and bags are made by one manufacturer, then private labeled for manufacturers and generics. About the only time you'll notice a difference is with certain higher end manufacturers and products, such as IQ Air for purifiers and Miele when it comes to vacuums where the OE product is something they control and maintain very strict quality standards over where there is a big difference between generic and OE quality. Honeywell however is not one of them, from what I've actually been able to tell their entire air purifier division is basically just a licensing of the Honeywell name by a company called "Kaz" that actually produces and services these air purifiers.

The filters they come with are the worst, they really cheap out. I have never seen and aftermarket replacement filter for any air cleaner that was worse than what they come new with.

Have you ever noticed that your purifier smells hot, like something is burning? Thank your for the video, this was great. Also, I do not see the link that you mentioned for the filters you used to replace the original. I do see the set on amazon, but I thought you mentioned a knock off set. Maybe not.

What about washing the carbon prefilter? Is that possible?
@FantomLightning6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it. You'll likely wash most of the odor eliminating carbon away, as well as some of the filter material making the whole thing less effective over all.

You said that if you have a vacuum without a bag, you should get rid of it. But then you used a Shark vacuum without a bag. Am I missing something. You said you work with vacuums and collect them so I grant that you know what you are talking about. I am just asking for clarification and an explanation as to why a vacuum without a bag is not good. Also, could you explain why one should use only a HEPA vacuum? Thank you.
@FantomLightning6 жыл бұрын
I used the Shark mainly to show what the prefilter trapped on the Honeywell. The main reason why bagged machines are better, especially for those with allergies is because they tend to me less maintenance, and trap more dust. You don't have filters to take out and clean, or a canister to dump and have dust billow out of. Any good bagged machine takes what it's picked up, and traps it inside until the time comes to toss the bag out. You'll also want a machine with a sealed system to ensure dust doesn't escape around the filters. While there are bagless machines that are sealed, the seals they have take much more of a beating and frequent wear especially on the canister.

I have this exact same air purifier but I'm having a problem. It keeps shutting off randomly, while I'm asleep. I've only had it for a couple days so I'm sure when I go to work and leave it on, it'll be off when I come home which isn't good! And no, I don't have the timer set to 2, 4 or even 8 hours. Anyone know why this would happen?
@FantomLightning6 жыл бұрын
I would try another outlet first, simply for the fact that any kind of power interruption will cause these to default to "off". If that doesn't solve the issue I'd return it straight away.
