Hong Kong Airport Epic Spotting: A380s, 747s, A340s, 777s, A330s, 767, DC-10!

Here are all the widebody landings you'll see: (66 total!) (Full details near beginning of video)
2 A380s, 1 747-8, 6 747-400s, 2 A340-600s, 4 other A340s, 18 777s, 1 DC-10, 31 A330s and a 767. These are flown by 28 different carriers: Cathay, Dragonair and Hong Kong Airlines account for exactly half, but you'll also see airlines from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America.
What an incredible day of planespotting this was for me! Can there be a better airport to watch landings than Hong Kong, where even short-haul flights and low-cost carriers commonly use widebodies? Watch this array of landings, filmed over a 5-6 hour period, and you'll see what I mean.

After looking closer (and not hurriedly or rushed) ..you provide us with a great view of the Skydeck. But even better, I like the huge effort you make to capture the registration of as many aircraft as possible -something good spotters certainly do! I'd say you pretty much wrapped this place up in one shot!

Tip: include as much land background as possible during a shoot. This gives the viewer a perspective of motion, depth and altitude.

excellent video! nice spotting! I already managed to fly with a DC-10! it was in 1985 in Pakistan with PIA from Karachi to Lahore, I was only 8 years old! i wish i could fly someday with the A380 and the boeing 747-8i, and the A340-600! the only 3 big aircrafts I didn't experienced yet! by the way i just posted a video about my flight from Taipei to Manila with the B 747-400 combi from EVA Air, that we can often see in this video! ;)

Mak Tang wai yes the aiport was open in 1925 closed in 1998 changed for the new airport 30km to the west so the kai tak was one of the dangerus airports in the world and the concord land on this airport

A few editing mistakes I only found after the video loaded: First, there was only one Emirates 777 landing, but I put the landing section before the approach section by accident, making it look like there were two. Second, An A330 strays into the 777s section at about 6:20. The A330 section begins 'for real' at 8:54. I just wanted to point these things out before someone else did! :-)

The real treat is the DC10 and MD11. Singapore's 747 is also not commonly seen nowadays because all of them have been retired from passenger services.

Actually, it's the built-in (and non-interchangeable) lens that comes with the Sony HDR-CX260v, which is a midrange video camera that I've had since 2012. What makes it fun to use is the 30X zoom feature, which is very useful for plane spotting.

Ohh!!! Canada Airline reminded me of plane delayed in Toronto Airport for 2 to 3 hrs! And I had to fly back to Kuala Lumpur with MAS airline 737 instead of Cathay Pacific!!! From HK after the lay over(transit) and I lost RM1k , as I chose to paid additional for Cathay Pacific coming back to KL from HK! Bad luck !!

You're very kind -- I think the difficulty is the distance you are from the aircraft when spotting from the Skydeck. At their closest the planes are about a third of a mile away from you, so you need to bring a pretty big zoom. A tripod definitely would have made for a better video, but at least I had image stabilization with my camcorder.

Just some advice, try to minimize the cutting between airplanes, kind gives viewers a headache when they're watching on thing and immediately another the next second. Otherwise awesome planes!

I'm nearly certain that the majority of landings (in which planes are moving to the left) are on 25R, and the takeoffs (plus some cargo landings) that you see take place on 25L.
