They need more than luck. Some of them lack basic business sense. To have any form of democracy the economy must be prosperous. What good is democracy when they cant even afford a decent meal or living in a 35 sq feet apartment. These 4 Big HK developers have got the HK people by the b@lls. Everyone is mortgaged to properties which costs over double or triple to the price anywhere in the world. There's plenty of land in HK. These next few years you will see property prices plummeting since the economy is heading for an escalated recession. My friends want out but cannot sell their properties. It will be a snowball effect by March 2020. In a way it would be good for the HK residents. Housing will be more affordable and in line to the Greater Bay area prices. They may have won the battle but they have lost the war.

Unless those strangely cutting ties with family and friends because they do not agree on some views and opinions. Nothing can be done there. The dangerous thing is forcing the whole world to follow one model of government 🤔 So, other models just became enemies because they are simply different despite having a neutral stance i. e. Not intervening in others internal state affairs. Then a neutral can simply look at the meaning of freedom in any democratic states. It is not illegal, to throw petrol bombs, molotov cocktails or make other kind of explosives to attack the police officers being the enforcers of law if they are not granting what is perceived as the citizens (loose) rights of freedom. So police is not needed in any nations according to being a complete free state. Its citizens can just use mob attacks to kill off any opposition and the majority will win rule applies. The people of a nation can attack any government offices and set it on fire if a mob of citizens feel upset by any enforcement carried by its government? All government agents cannot use fire arms or they are regarded as terrorising its people and being control freaks? It's really confusing coming from having standards in the US or elsewhere... You cannot have anarchists in the US doing the same ape shit over there, otherwise, tough luck, see you in the morgue pal.

@Are See wait, communism is an ideology of how a society should run, it's no different from having senators from various states debating, seeking council and putting bills through to become legislation, but many of these processes actually agreed by every single citizen? It is easy to label others. Can you say other nations of democracy is free from tyrannical behaviour or abuse of authority? Do not contradict yourself here. It's not an excuse, but the truth. It needs fair educated thoughts to be debated first before going ape mode on the streets. We are not King Kongs, but just a Hong Kong er with a mindset of our own. Not everyone agrees with everything in the real world. Just look various parties in all democratic nations. Your view about Chinese weapons being junk. Bravo. An opinion. @Are See intellectual or not. That's subjective here. Hell no to extremism. I said, communism is a socialist ideology of how a society should run. Do not play around by bending words. Legitimacy comes from within those governing. But please look at what jurisdiction means. An official of China, have their rights. Same as an official elsewhere have its rights. Your extreme views that China is evil, is what we can refer as xenophobia. That is true evil. A lack of tolerance for differences. Legitimacy varies once an individual crosses another border of a state. So, remember, not all the land on this planet says... US Properties, just yet.

@simondover5695 жыл бұрын
Most HK understand the independence is not only politically but economically impossible. But they are guaranteed a high degree of autonomy under the basic law. They also have the right to elect their own leaders. So far 51% of legislative council is elected in a small closed election, as is the Chief Executive. So most are asking for fairness not indepence. Also, the past 2 protests begun when China tried to pass draconian laws in HK. The first was their security legislation which basically said if they are offended they can lock you up forever. And the second was legislation which said if you have broken Chinese law (which has strict security legislation) even if you are in Hong Kong then you go to jail in China. Which rational person would stand for that?

How is this victory for the people of Hong Kong? As Hong Kong's economy declines, the Chinese mainland can elect to do nothing for a while, perhaps even a few years, but the time will come, if the violence does not stop and Hong Kong breaks apart, for mainland riot police to come into Hong Kong. Such riot police will use suitable degree of force to quell the violence and then leave. If violence recurs they will come back, and the process repeats. Hong Kong will be given second, third, fourth, fifth chance to maintain peace, then perhaps the time will come when mainland troop will have to take a permanent active role in Hong Kong. Does one seriously think that the US government has any role in Hong Kong's future--would the mainland yield? I wish for Hong Kong to become a Singapore, with less freedom and greater order. With the backing of the mainland, Hong Kong really does not need to cater the the West by unquestionably embracing all of its values for the territory's prosperity. Dimsum, the English language, common law, the backing of an enormous and vibrant Chinese mainland, the allure of China, to which Hong Kong still has a minor role as the gateway, to many in the West, all will be enough for Hong Kong to be prosperous. Singapore canes Westerners who break the law, and they still go there; the same will be true for Hong Kong.

No, this was only a district-council election. Go to 6:26, you can see that, within the LegCo, almost half of the seats (30) come from functional constituencies, most of which are essentially controlled by Beijing. Hence, Beijing has direct control over both the legislative and executive branches of the government in Hong Kong. Additionally, the election committee for the chief executive consists of only 1200 people, the majority of which are also puppets of Beijing. So, NO, Hong Kong does not have democracy, and one-country-two-systems isn't working fine (just look at the power that the liaison office has in Hong Kong!).

Indeed Anton Sidharta... until 2047 whole China has turned democratic, and people are happy. That truly will be a sight to see. ;)

“It appears to be” “The people’s victory over Hongkong government” Very carefully chosen choice of words. It’s just the beginning of a new saga. Those who laugh first will laugh last. Whatever changes being demanded, Beijing’s endorsement is still required. I seriously doubt a single demand will be granted. What then? Another saga of violence? I can see the days ahead for Hongkong is dimmer than before and will sink even further into chaos followed by economic decline and depression. In the end it’s still Hongkong who stand to lose possibly everything that took years to build. Sad indeed! 🙈🙈🙈
