Long text incoming: This is Hong Kong's first World Cup win in the Men's Foil Team category. On the Left: Team Hong Kong In the run up to the Tokyo Olympics, Greg KOENIG (France) and Maurizio ZOMPARELLI (Italy) moved to Hong Kong as national coaches. Hong Kong won their first Team World Cup medal in 2019 at St Petersburg, where they defeated Italy and France before losing to USA in the finals. The team at the time was CHEUNG Ka Long 張家朗, CHOI Chun Yi Ryan 蔡俊彥, YEUNG Chi Ka 楊子加, and CHOI Nicholas Edward. In the coming seasons, the first two spots of the team would stay with CHEUNG Ka Long 張家朗 and CHOI Chun Yi Ryan 蔡俊彥, with the third and reserve spots often switching between YEUNG Chi Ka 楊子加, CHOI Nicholas Edward 崔浩然, Cheung Siu Lun 張小倫, NG Lok Wang Lawrence 吳諾弘, LEUNG Chin Yu 梁千雨, and LEE Aron Yat Long. Hong Kong would win Bronze at the 2020 Cairo World Cup. Cheung Siu Lun 張小倫, NG Lok Wang Lawrence 吳諾弘 would make the third and fourth spots respectively for the Tokyo Olympic Games, where CHEUNG Ka Long 張家朗 would win Gold in the individual event and Hong Kong would take 7th place in the team. In the run up to the Paris Olympic Games, Hong Kong would win its first ever World Championships medals in both individual and team events, with CHEUNG Ka Long 張家朗 winning a bronze at the 2021 Cairo World Championships and team Hong Kong winning a Bronze at the 2023 Milan World Championships, defeating Italy in the quarterfinal, losing to Japan in the semifinal, before beating Team USA in the Bronze medal match. That team Hong Kong would field CHEUNG Ka Long 張家朗, CHOI Chun Yi Ryan 蔡俊彥, YEUNG Chi Ka 楊子加, and LEUNG Chin Yu 梁千雨. Since then, LEUNG Chin Yu 梁千雨, age 19 and used to fence sabre, would regularly fence the third spot for Hong Kong. More recently LEE Aron Yat Long started to fence as the reserve for Hong Kong. This was the team that would win Gold at the 2023 Cheungdu Universade Championships. On the Right: Team Italy A historically dominant team, Italy are the World Champions from the seasons of 2008, 2009, 2012 (Olympic Champions), 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Despite this strong history, Team Italy is now more vulnerable than it has been in recent history. Italy's anchor, Daniele GAROZZO (2016 Olympic Individual Champion, 2021 Olympic Individual Silver Medalist) announced his retirement due to heart problems before this event. Garozzo had anchored Italy in the team event at almost every event since the end of the 2016 Rio Olympics. The most senior member of the team, Alessio FOCONI (2018 World Champion and FIE World Number 1 from 2017 to 2021) has fallen to FIE rank 15 and recently been fencing as the reserve in the team. Andrea CASSARA, part of Team Italy's starting line-up since 2004, retired after the Tokyo Olympics. Giorgio AVOLA, member of the team since 2010 has not been selected to fence in the team event since the Tokyo Olympics also announced retirement recently. This leaves the younger generations, Guillaume BIANCHI (age 26), Tomasso MARINI (age 24), and Filippo MACCHI (age 22), to pick up the slack. These three are all the best from their respective generations. Bianchi was the best junior for Italy around 2017, won a Bronze at the 2018 Bonn World Cup, before struggling to make it past the Round of 32 at individual events for a while, until this season, when he finally broke into the Top 16 ranking. Bianchi was selected as reserve for the 2022 Cairo World Championships, won the individual event of the Hong Kong World Cup, and as of this team competition, Bianchi was ranked 9th in the World. Everyone knows Tomasso MARINI - built like one of those car wash inflatable mascots, if he was left-handed, he would have the most perfect background for a foil fencer. He is probably the most decorated fencer of this Olympic cycle, having won Gold at the 2023 Milan World Championships, and lost in the final of the 2022 Cairo World Championships by one point to Enzo LEFORT. He also won 4 World Cups and 1 Grand Prix and anchored Italy at the 2023 Acapulco World Cup, where he entered the final leg with a slight advantage and lost. Filippo MACCHI won Silver at the 2023 Turin Grand Prix and winning the Individual European Championships. Macchi was then selected to fence for the team's starting line-up more regularly, including at the 2023 Milan World Championships, where Italy lost to Hong Kong in the quarterfinals. I think this is this first World Cup where Italy fielded Marini, Bianchi, and Macchi as the starting line-up, so it's somewhat impressive that they made it to the final altogether. 0:00 Intro 0:20 Choi v Marini 1:03 Cheung v Bianchi 2:16 Leung v Macchi 3:02 Choi v Bianchi 3:32 Leung v Marini 4:45 Cheung v Macchi 6:16 Leung v Bianchi 7:06 Choi v Macchi 8:04 Cheung v Marini

I wonder, after winning this World Cup, will Hong Kong participate in the team event at the Olympics in Paris? Love this video, thank you ❤️

Nope, the qualification period ended a while back. For Asia team qualification, Japan took the top 4 spot and China took the Asia spot. For individual Asia qualification, Cheung Ka Long of Hong Kong, Ha Taegyu of Korea, and Chen Yi Tung of Taiwan qualified from individual rankings/competition

@@Dancingtuna Can you elaborate on the "Japan took the top 4 spot" and China the "Asia spot" ?
@Dancingtuna6 ай бұрын
@@peekaboopeekaboo1165 Olympic qualifications allows 8 teams to qualify. The top 4 teams by FIE ranking at the end of the qualifying period automatically qualify. The other 4 spots are given to the top ranking team by FIE ranking of each geographic zone - Europe, Asia, Pan-America, and Africa. So for Paris, two Asian teams were able to qualify - Japan by Top 4 rankings and China as the top ranked Asian team

I think it might be better for them to shift their focus and continuously build momentum for the Los Angeles Olympics in 4 years time (if they can qualify that is.)

Agreed. Everyone always have the spotlight pushed to Ka Long but, the other two shouldnt be neglected. Their decision on whos 1st,2nd,3rd in the team are obvious on knowing who they face would help.
