Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index Heading for Bull Market

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index jumped more than 2% on Monday, putting it on track for a technical bull market. The city's benchmark equity index is seeing gains as Chinese property stocks surge. Mark Cranfield reports on Bloomberg Television.

Some of his analysis is off. He keeps commenting on RMB. Look Hang Seng Index is denominated in HKD, not RMB. And since HKD is pegged towards the USD, its currency strength is most predominately caused by that of the USD, not the RMB. Second of all, he missed the point about the rise in HSI. It’s mainly due to the economic policy of PRC boosting HK’s stock and financial market more broadly. It’s not necessarily due to consumer sentiment, in fact it has gotten worse with a Q1 GDP growth that is lower than that of last year, and that businesses are still struggling due to sluggish consumer spending.
