I know all about it firsthand. I've been stuck living in my dad's kitchen for nearly 7 combined YEARS, in California. I have no personal space or privacy, no quality of life, and it's driving me insane with severe, crippling depression. Sometimes I can't even get out of bed (which is between the sink and the living room TV, surrounded in cardboard). I'm miserable and frustrated every damn day. I can't even go out and try to work, without getting road rage, and exploding with anger at people. I literally had to quit my last full-time job at a warehouse because of my severely dysfunctional living conditions. Most people don't even understand or want to help, and simply call me "lazy". I feel so empty and dead inside. So burnt out. I can't live or work like this. I just can't. I'm just spiralling deeper and deeper into a huge mess of debt and problems. I get collection letters in the mail constantly, even from the police. I tried sleeping in my car, out of sheer desperation, but got caught up in a mess of parking tickets which I can't pay. I can't even pay my damn bills. I hate my life and the world so much.

At least they have a small place to live in. Isn't they are better off then those homeless in some others countries. The 10 States Where Homelessness is Out of Control and Beyond Repair Every day in the US, on average, 55 people become homeless. For some, it’s a choice. For many, it is not. While we had seen a decrease for a number of years, the homeless rate in the United States is going up again, and in many states, it’s exploding. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5XUYqWijKt4atE The Oakland, California Homeless Problem is Beyond Belief kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4O6nn6eZpiVa5I Poverty in the World's Richest Country: Meet the USA's Poorest People | American Poverty Documentary kzbin.info/www/bejne/j520cmane9-qZ5o

The sad thing is this might soon become a norm in the US as well. I work 50+ hours a week with decent pay, good credit, and STILL can't afford reasonable accommodations in a small city. The best a lot of people in my situation can get is renting rooms and those are becoming progressively more expensive too. Wouldn't be surprised if we start renting out cabinet spaces like this, I know someone personally who slept in a walk in closet. It's scary how basic accomodations is becoming a losing game for a large percentage of the world.

@Masterman5010 Yes, but the sad reality is that those homes are being sold almost exclusively to upperclass families or retirees. If they don't sell They're more often then not left to rot, that's a big issue in major cities. So logically, we'd assume older homes would enter the market at a discount, but no. They're being renovated into far more expensive homes or bought up as investment properties. Both mean higher mortgages/rentals.

@@Zombie_Trooper Strongly depends on land management with population ratio, new york has one of the worst proportions over there, lack of residential land means sky rocketing rent for smaller buildings and living quarters which would result to smaller room but another good point yet most middle class folk could be able to afford depending on how much they make, it really depends on economy and land development

Mzero To think I pay half that to live in a bright and airy two bedroom flat overlooking a park and the sea here in the UK. People who grumble about the cost of their rent really should give thought to those that are forced to live in our world’s cities in such desperate and diabolical situations. I may be both disabled and housebound, but I can sit on my bed and see not only a green park with trees and a boating lake, but I also get a small glimpse of blue sea. I consider myself very fortunate indeed. I can only pray that the future for these forgotten souls will one day improve. I'm going through even worse living conditions in Long Beach, CA. I've been stuck for YEARS living in my dad's kitchen, with no personal space or privacy, and no quality of life, which is literally driving me insane, with severe, crippling depression. Especially as an introvert. I can't even hold a job like this. I literally had to quit my last full-time job at a warehouse because of my severely dysfunctional living conditions. I can't live or work like this. I'm just spiralling deeper and deeper into a mess of debt and problems. I hate my life so much.

@@funtimestuff people have to rely on governments to supply what they can't afford. Like social and affordable housing, health care. The state has an obligation to it citizens. And when they fail their obligation to the poor, the poor must rise up first by non violence means and if these fail then they must use physical force.
