Hongdian 660 Wood Fountain Pen Review

A new design from Hongdian. Excellent wood pen, great design & execution. Nice writing No. 6 steel nib. Feels good in the hand, pleasant on the eye. Related info:

Nice review, thanks. 1997 is my wedding year, so the wife won't be able to complain about another pen ("but honey, it's our wedding year!"). I have several wooden pens; the Moonman M6 was tight and then the cap cracked so this one seems to be better designed. I always hesitate when there is a metal band right near the nib, as it gets in the ink and over time may corrode. I'm getting one. Thank you!

The metal under plating is brass, won't corrode. Enjoy the pen.

I cracked the M6 cap as well, but I did drop in on tile, so no fault of the pen really. And it us just a micro crack, so it still works as well as it ever did. Didn't make the drying out any better though. ;)

I had the same thing happen to an item I ordered from the USA. I thought they had mistaken California with Canada, but they'd sent the wrong shipping number. It seems like this pen has addressed the shortcomings of the Moon M6, which dried out very quickly, and eventually the cap split.

Drying out is my only real complaint about my M6. I ink it still, and just use the convertor to push some ink into the feed when it dries out. Of course fixing this flaw would be nice.

@@greyareaRK1 I think the M8 doesn't have this issue being made of resin. The M6 cap doesn't have plastic liner all through the cap, which is likely the issue.

I got the hongdian 1831 which is a metal rod pen writes smoothly despite being a very heavy pen, and also I got the hongdian 1837 which has a very beautiful magpie painting and not very heavy and writes smoothly too, perhaps if you have the chance you should tried the 1831 and 1837

Great review as per usual its on my list.I have 2 Moonman wood pens & couple of handmade wood pens i have thought about treating them but have been undecided what to use,i would be interested in the content of the mixture you use & in no way would i hold you responsible for any after effect incured to the pens.

Have you tried the Jinhao 9056? Almost exactly the same shape and dimensions as the Conklin All American and a really outstanding fine nib.

Hello, is there a tutorial on how to swap nibs in any of the huge number of videos you have published? I don't want to break my pen without seen how it is done. Thank you.

I don't have a specific video, not easy to photograph. Challenge is each pen can be different. Some nibs I can't pull out. Generally use a rubber gripper, grab sides of nib, stay off the feed fins, twist & gently pull on nib. Many pull out easily. When replacing nib be sure to check if the section has orientation, a flat spot for feed and/or a cutout for nib. Rule whenever working with pens, be gentle. Some pens I don't try t I remove nibs, Sailor, Pilot, Platinum & Pelikan to name a few.

@@chrisrap52 I like my Neponset, despite all the usual Noddler's disclaimers. I wish I had the gold nib version, but that is only available from Nathan at some pen shows. Maybe one day, when those come back.
