I think this is the first review up on KZbin of the A9! Great comparison btw the N10. Way to go!

Wonderful review, Chris! I don't have either of these pens yet... I only just a month ago finally got a couple of WingSung 630s, but I really like the look of these Hongdian nibs much better. I have some catching up to do on my Chinese pen wishlist, I guess... though I did just order a PenBBS gold nib, finally. Anyway... I loved the video, as usual! Thanks!

Both pens look nice. I like to change inks often, therefore a cartridge converter will be my choice.

I have recently bought this pen from Etsy . Very nice pen with a comfortable grip for long writing .The nib has a bit of feedback and is not scratchy at all. Ebonite feed with no 8 size nib is not very common with under $30 pen . I have ordered a fine nib and am very happy with the purchase❤

I received mine last week and I think it is one of the best Hongdian pens. I do think the vertical lines are a design flaw that I find annoying, and I am not one to be overly picky on things like that. But the no 8 like nib with the feed is excellent and it posts well and is not heavy at all.

Congratulations. First review of the new A9. I've got one on its way to me. I ordered quickly based on how fast the blue N10's sold out. 💙 Thanks for the review.

I'm still waiting for the blue N10...
@teresaharris-travelbybooks55647 ай бұрын
@@omeryehezkely3096 as far as I can discover, there aren't any more. I found an Ebay site that advertised them. I ordered and paid and when I didn't get a shipping notification, I asked if they even had the blue one and they admitted that they didn't. I got a refund and left a poor review.

The "sold out" of the N10 blue it's a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. I think it only lasted a few hours, maybe minutes, on sale. The magenta and green ones, on the other hand, are still found everywhere and sometimes at a very good price, more on the side of 20 than 30eur
@teresaharris-travelbybooks55647 ай бұрын
@@MateuMatheu what do you think happened? Did Hongdian only make a small number of them? Are there millions of them; out there clutched in the hands of pen lovers, that we just don't know about? 🤔 It IS an enigma.

I have the A9 in the shopping cart and haven't pulled the trigger yet. The finish on the pen reminds me of a barber pole. Interesting that the nib width differs slightly on the pens. With cartridge converter pens, I look to see if it can be eyedropper filled. I do not change inks very often so I am always looking for a way to increase the capacity. Can you do this with this pen? Nice review and comparison, Chris.
@chrisrap527 ай бұрын
You can ED this pen, need a safe neutral ink to avoid attacking plated metal section.
@teresaharris-travelbybooks55647 ай бұрын
Follow up question; have you had any ink leakage or burping? It seems like this ebonite feed, or mabe the aluminum barrel, is affected by the heat?
@chrisrap527 ай бұрын
No, the ebonite feed & aluminum pen are fine.

I like blue one. The pattern almost looks like it's moving, like a barber pole. Hongdian/Asvine are the best Chinese nibs.

Hi, does the ebonite feed make the flow better versus a plastic feed?
@chrisrap527 ай бұрын
From my experience, modern ebonite feeds like these are not significantly better than the plastic feeds. Vintage ebonite feeds, carved differently, can support a large ink flow.

hong dian a9 or wing sung 630? Who win?
@chrisrap52Ай бұрын
It is a tie. These pens only have No. 8 nib size in common. A9, metal, C/C fill. 630, plastic, piston fill. If I had to pick one, it would be he A9, love the look. Or the N10 same look, piston fill.

@@chrisrap52I have a ws#8 nib that I installed in jinhao x 159. yes, it's smooth, but it's hard as nails.Which of the feathers do you like best, aesthetics aside? I am interested in the experience of writing: softness, elasticity, slight variability of lines, are these qualities present in nib #8 hongdian (unlike wing sung), I ask this because I have seen many Positive reviews (listing the qualities I am interested in) about nib (and not only #8) hongdian, so forgive me. I don't want to waste time reading all this, but it's important for me to know your opinion. And yes, forgive my English.
@chrisrap52Ай бұрын
Is your WS#8 a two tone nib? Mine are. The nibs in my 2 630s are softer & write better than nib in N9. They are smoother & feel better on paper than the N9 nib. I do not consider the 630 nib to be hard as a nail. I have just written with these nibs to refresh my recollection. As you may be aware, these mass produced lower end nibs vary in quality. There is a saying "Your mileage may vary." The nib you have may write differently. Also how we write has a big impact on how a nib feels in our hand. I try to adjust my writing to the nib. I've learned that over decades & 1000s of pens.
@Абусупиян-й1йАй бұрын
@@chrisrap52Yes, a two-tone pen #8 with the inscription "1947". It's smooth, wetness, but not soft, not bounce. It's strange to expect this from a steel pen, but that's exactly what the reviews say about it. Maybe the separately sold nibs are worse than those supplied in pens? I do not know, I just heard a lot of positive reviews about nibs #8, #6 hongdian, and when making the decision "to buy or not", I based on my experience of owning nib #8 wing sun and wanted to hear your experience of writing with both pens #8. Thanks to your review, I realized that hongdian #8 nib is no better than ws #8 nib, and I won't buy it. By the way, I practice a little calligraphy and understand a little writing, but of course your experience is invaluable. Thank you!
