Dana is lower rank and she initially did try to hide and defend her baby when daniela was 3 days old, she was attacked by deedees mom and 2 others, almost lost an eye, and hsd to hide under Marcus to break it up. Which, hes not going to allow every day. She is the best mom she can be. Its like the mafia, they exchange s look with Dana or tiuch Danielas leg whike Dana is nursing her and its their sign for "give us your baby to scare or we will kill you both". Afterward she immediately tries to soothe and nurse Daniela. The problem is as she ages Danoela can take alot of abuse so she also gets more rebellious to mom, and the standard head pulling and mouth nipping dont woek for mom disciplining her. Danielas life is a saga, you need to watch the folder of like 20 videos in order, also you actually need to know something about this species of macaque from elsewhere to correctly make sense of their behavior and facial expressions because its often the exact opposite of what a human would think. Human psychology isnt applicable for the most part. Like their babies fear of not being clung is an evolutionary biological adaptation that they cant control, like how humabs are born with fear of falling.

Tracey Robson You can trace Dana’s death in videos. Not sure when. Months ago maybe? This is what I recall if my memory is correct. One of the males in her troop attacked her & gave her a disabling injury. I think she was sent to wla where she was eventually euthanized.

Could you even imagine being in such a situation? 3:05 that monkey that's cowering with her face hidden -that's the little monkey's Mom! She can hear her baby calling her, but she can't do ANYTHING about it. ALL she can do is follow them wherever they go, and hope that her baby, Daniela, can get free and away from Dee Dee. Imagine being Dana, her baby is right there, screaming for mommy to come save her, and all she can do is follow them and wait for an opportunity to grab her kid. Imagine being THAT helpless, while your child is pleading for you to come save her. That would be absolutely terrifying!!!

One of the many reasons people hate monkeys. However, dont let dana fool you. She put food before daniela many times. She also left her by herself a lot. Shes following dee dee but shes constantly checking to see if the VOs will drop food. Notice when she gets her baby back, instead of comforting her and letting her eat, she flips her upside down so that she can't eat. She ALWAYS had an abundance of milk because she didnt feed her kid. She also never made sure she followed the hierarchy rules, which got her killed. I have watched many times stand up to upper ranks for & jesse. []b;llg:

Every time I saw video of Daniela nursing, Dana would give her time to fill her belly -not long, because her belly is about the size of a tablespoon, at this age. Daniela would refuse to stop, as most baby monkeys do. However, Daniela would go absolutely BALLISTIC because mom didn't want to be used as a pacifier! Maybe she chewed a lot (with THOSE teeth 😱), maybe Dana had sensitive nipples. It's safe to say Dana wasn't going for the "Mother of the Year" award, but Donny turned into one of the sweetest, most easygoing and mellow monkeys I've ever seen. So she had to be doing something right! Daniela ignored the rules, even when Dolly was trying to teach her! She ALSO whined and cried constantly. Even when she was eating! I'm surprised that she didn't whine in her sleep! I KNOW that you've seen the video of the time Dana actually tried fighting back, and not letting Dee Dee kidnap Daniela, right? I'm pretty sure no less than 4 adult females attacked her, with Dolly and Dee Dee BOTH trying to yank Daniela out of Dana's arms the entire time! It was ONLY because of the alpha male defending Dana that she was able to hold onto Daniela! She came out of THAT one bloody and beaten, I'm not surprised that she stopped trying to interfere, when Dee Dee came calling! I'm not saying that Dani deserved any of the abuse she received from Dolly and Dee Dee, but the reason she kept drawing the negative attention from those two bullies was both her AND her mother's fault!
