There used to be a restaurant in Ala Moana shopping center called Byrons II that did all the tableside dishes and more. Waiters wore tuxedos and they even served lunch. It wasn't as pricey as HY'S but now that there gone HY'S is the only place with tableside service on this island. I'm glad you enjoyed HY'S but you would have loved Byrons II and could have gone shopping after! Enjoy the rest of your stay here!

I stayed at Vive in Fall 2019 and actually had no idea that Hy was such a gem! I'm looking at pictures... They have a special grille to cook the steaks over local Kiawe wood. Really interesting! Another steak house to try... A few years ago I enjoyed DK steakhouse in Waikiki. Very upscale modern and yet laid back island vibes. Delicious!

You should have gotten the grilled pineapple, lol. I want to give you a recent report from Vegas: went to Barry's and had their "Ribcap." It was as good as Oscars. Unfortunately, the Beef Wellington at Paris was very underwhelming. I did enjoy the onion soup and the peas, though, very tasty. I would say if you like your steaks grilled, pass on the Beef Wellingtons.

This dinner looked delicious. And your comparison to Vegas steak house prices where on point. The steakhouse prices in my area are quite comparable. Too many complain about high end prices for dining. You can't get a four star dining experience on a sizzler budget. Loved your outfits too!

I’ve had French Onion Soup at a few establishments (fine dining) that used chicken based broth. I don’t care for it. The salad looks a bit lacking for fine dining, but taste is what matters. If the lemon is wrapped in the mesh, you don’t need your fork to catch the seeds. 😂

It might just be the best in Hawaii. Locals recognize it as such. But steakhouses in Hawaii, as a general rule, often serve island beef, which tends to be tough and not very tasty.

I've eaten there a few times, and after having really good steak, prepared right at Pacific Dining Car in LA (now permanently closed due to the pandemic), or Plaza III in Kansas City, I was quite disappointed. Recently got to try Bazaar Steak in Las Vegas, and that was very good, but overpriced.
