Honolulu's historic Chinatown district grapples with growing homeless population

An Institute for Human Services survey found that 172 people were homeless in Chinatown throughout 2018. Residents, merchants and police in Honolulu's historic Chinatown district are grappling with a growing homeless population.

Alot of locals from the island is moving away the rent is so expensive i was born and raised in hawaii and had 3 jobs till i finally moved to the mainland to survive the hardship i went through) i was also homeless for a year

I'm a veteran on a pension and I live near Chicago I'm getting a flight as soon as it opens and I will live on the streets take showers at planer fitness and have a gr8 time hanging out in coffee/ restaurants shops at night 😆 what ya gonna do I'm a citizen of the USA and a veteran + I don't do drugs 😆 you gonna deport me ?

- US Vets Barbers point 2 IHS ... 2 different shelters I stayed along with a tent for awhile .. It was pretty ruff ! Not alot of places to go and things are to expensive.. I feel bad for the homeless still struggling and the Natives that can't afford to live on the islands they come from... 🙏

That is why we must give it in the cause of the Almighty respectively to: Parents- Relatives- Fatherless children- Needy people- Aliens- The Beggars- Homeless people, who are living on soil or dust- Those who ask for help- Also, near Neighbor, who is a relative- The neighbor who is farther away- Friend who is near you- Debtors. But, those wicked preachers and rabbis changed those verses in those Scriptures and say, "Pay your 10% charities to those Churches and Synagogues" so they could get rich every day. Rejecting this very important Law of our Creator results Disasters through our life. Like lack of health, accidents, losing money, property damages and so on. Just look at the Bible belt area with so many disasters every single year. Do not let those wicked religious leaders rape your heart and soul. That is why we have million Homeless people sleeping in the streets.

because a good many of the homeless in Alaska end up in Hawaii.. people seem to think they come from the 48. well actually I'd say only about 30% do. 70% have come from Alaska.

@@whenDarkAngelsmiles and a good many end up in Hawaii. I'd say 50% are people who've been in Hawaii most all thier life. about 15% come from the 48. 35% have come from Alaska. as mentioned above. Thoes who haven't been in Hawaii before only 3 out of 10 are from the 48. 7 out of 10 came in from Alaska. I was one of the 3 out of 10. I lived on the streets of Honolulu from December 2013 until May 2014. it seems 70% of the people I hung around who weren't originally from Hawaii were from Alaska.

@@whenDarkAngelsmiles also it's worth mentioning that.. in Hawaii homeless people are more noticeable because unlike in the 48 they're not living in a car. We have more homeless people then you'd initially think in the 48.. because if you're living in your car and driving around you'll fall under the radar. You can't drive very far in Hawaii and stay unnoticed and hide. Last I read it cost $2,500 from the west coast and $3,000 from the east coast to get a car shipped out to Hawaii. So obviously if you have financial means to do that.. you're not going to be living in the car. I met 1 guy he was living in his car I believe he said Colorado if I remember correctly. he sold it for $1,000 because winter was coming. And as you probably already caught on.. yes that car was over 2 decades old and was starting to fall apart. Obviously he didn't have very much extra money because he sleeping in it. So he found somebody who was willing to buy it for $1,000.
