When the battle's been won tell the 401. The reason why it's worded this way is because the 401 was chasing the German pilots back across the channel when they received word that the battle was won a half hour before hand. Meaning they were going to keep fighting till either they or the Germans were dead.

To say the Polish pilots were driven was an understatement. I know for many of them it was about revenge. They couldn't fight the Nazis in occupied Poland, so they joined the RAF to help bring down the Luftwaffe and eventually, out of Poland. I guess, like the Ukrainians, you'd want to keep shooting until the enemy surrendered or were dead. War crimes are down to honour.
