You know the first time I heard this song it moved me and don't get me wrong I still love it. But I was with a person for almost 10 years (4 of those married) and realized that they were never going to change. I felt like I truly loved this person but they continually hurt me mentally and physically so because I loved them I had to stay and maybe change myself in some ways like body image. Actually, they did up changing but it was after we separated and they still didn't change their narcissistic and abusive ways. That was a big deal breaker for me because we have a young child and eventually I started fearing for their safety as well. However, my soon to be ex husband's girlfriend, told me she believe he has changed a lot of his ways and to me that hurt but somehow I'm also happy for them. There has been a true dark cloud reigning over my heart that made me always feel like I wasn't good enough for him or anyone and unfortunately we are trauma bonded. But now, I feel a little bit of peace that he and I have both moved on and now are trying to co parent which has a lot of difficulties. So my point to all of that is I still love this song but I see a different side now to it. I see a side where if you are changing yourself for someone because you are hurting them/ others/ yourself than then that's good but no one can force you. On the other hand, if you are changing yourself to be accepted but you already believe yourself to be a good person than that person is not who you are meant to be with because a person who loves you will love you though your flaws and you can work together that's healthy. For me now I just want to be a good mom to my little boy. I am lucky I found a person who loves and cares for both of us and accepts me for who I am.
