Clever Hydroponic setup!🌿🌵 I wrapped up my outdoor gardening for the season! Focusing on indoor gardening and hydroponics until spring 2021.🌱

Keep an eye on your feed tubes. I've had the roots grow up into the tubes and block the flow of nutrients. Nice setup.

Hey dude, maybe I overlooked, but have you ever tried doing Vermiculite in Dutch Buckets, or a mix of Perlite/Vermiculite? Only reason I ask, is due to the ability for Vermiculite to hold a bit more water/nutrients? Might come in handy for newer plants, and/or for situations where you have a system go down, and you don't catch it soon enough? Just thinking out loud man, and would love to hear your thoughts on that!

Great channel, just what I need to further my knowledge of NFT and Dutch Bucket systems for my upcoming new venture. Cheers mate 👍

Love your videos and want to share my mistake with you and your followers. Possibly it was stupidity on my part but I haven't been able to find much about the problem I had on the internet? I lost 26 plants in my dutch bucket system and all within a week. I thought it was a lack of nutrients. I'll cut this short. It was, I believe it was the very hard well water we have in our community. I got so much build up of calcium and other things that are in well water and it seemed to block out the ability for all plants to even take up the water and nutrients I was giving it? I will commence to rebuild my garden again but am making adjustments so i can clean the entire system at least once a month. I also am considering making a large 55 gal. reservoir that feeds my 2, 27 gal. reservoirs. I can mix all the nutrients in that reservoir and then it will feed the other 2 as they drain down. I also found Enzyme Komplete and will flush the system with that about every 4 weeks? Do you feel this will work for what I am doing? I also am very interested in your Hooch Bucket system? I look forward to those buckets becoming available. I look forward to your response. Thanks again.

Can you eliminate the medium when it comes to the Dutch bucket system ? The way you did with the NFTs and the pucks

Hi mate, I love watching your videos. I'm from Brisbane but I've been living in Thailand for the last few years. Question- You mentioned that you make a seedling mix then at what stage do you drain the holding tank to your next phase of nutrients ? Once you do add in your next lot of nutrients, how much water is in your hold tank?

I’ve been watching a few of your videos to get ideas for some work I’m doing on our property. However, I’ve just realised who you are! I think we went through primary school together... BBPS yeah?!

Thanks again for your hard work. Curious, was there a reason for using perlite only on this system vs the perlite vermiculite mix?
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
Karen Everling better drainage and I want to reuse the perlite. It’s easier to reuse on its own.

good video, are you using the campbell fertiliser for your hydroponic? keen to have some review feedback

Have you had any issues with the perlite floating in the water? I see you're only watering twice per day. Does it retain quite a bit of water? I was going to use a similar build but try an ebb and flow system vs. the Dutch bucket.

How does the heat of the day effect the water in the res? And have you thought about putting some sort of lid with a hole in it to help with evaporation?

Curious about how much root mass you lost when you pulled those bad boys out of the starter tray. The seedlings look good! Glad you didnt lose them

Hello, want to ask about more exactly set up of time for watering, do you water them only at day time or at day and night? And you still water them 4 times per day by 15 minutes? Hope, that you have some advice for me.
@aaronspain33873 жыл бұрын
How are you stopping the wind from blowing away all the perlite? The stuff at the top would be dry, and from what I've experienced with my mixes so far, the damned stuff blows away, so I prefer to use akadama (for bonsai) or hydroton for the aquaponics.

Hay hoocho first time watching thanx for the vid will subscribe. I just planted my tomatoes in such buckets and the moment I did it they look like there all diying. Do they always bounce back. I put so much effort in and don’t want to be disappointed 😔?

James Dimmick they should bounce back, they’re pretty resilient 🤞🏻😂

Ya might need to cover the buckets so the perlite doesn't blow away.

Hi buddy, I wanna ask you, when you feed them (example 4 times/day) do you just divide it like 24/4? I mean, do you water them only thru the day or even thru the night..? Sory for lame question..
@Hoocho3 жыл бұрын
I’m only turning on the pump two times a day at the moment (for 15 minutes at a time) on a mechanical timer. Getting fantastic results

Love the video's, still need to watch more. I am building my first hydroponic system and would love opinions between the NFT and dutch bucket. What are the limitations in terms of plant type for each system. The dutch bucket system seem to be higher cost to build, is that right?
@remka20003 жыл бұрын
Since this comment is 5 months old I would assume you probably found an answer, but if anyone else wonders : NFT would typically work for leafy greens, herbs and plants with shallow root systems, while dutch buckets would generally be more appropriate for fruiting plants with more extensive root systems (typically tomatoes, peppers etc.).
