Thank you for being sooo clear! I’m a 32 year old single female that knows hardly anything about cars but I feel super confident I can do this on my own! I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and my hood keeps falling down when I check my oil so I’m going to give this a try. Thanks again!

Your channel deserves a lot of Subscribers, you are one of the most instructional well thought out mechanic teaching people step by step making the work more easier, rather than trying to figure out what you did wrong when performing the actual repair.

I bought a set of struts on Amazon that came with NO instructions... ZERO, nothing! By far, this was the most helpful video I found. The trick of using Vise-grips to hold up the hood is fantastic. Applying a dab of grease is also great advice - I got a small tube of lithium grease for it. Another trick I discovered... before prying up the metal retaining clip with a narrow screwdriver, place a short 1/4 x 20 bolt loosely into the socket between the ends of the clip. Then lay the strut on a table with the bolt head down, and then pry the clip up. The bolt end setting inside the socket forces the clip ends to back-out evenly, and blocks the clip from rotating horizontally inside the socket as you lift the clip up. I ruined one clip before figuring this out. Then just remove the bolt, and the socket is ready to pop onto the ball mount on the hood and the chassis.

Hi, where did you apply grease? Do you mean in the openings, the ends which you attach to the hood?
@IbrahimAli-sx5lq11 ай бұрын
I had to throw away all the new 4 clips because they won't come up straight (vertically) - they frustratingly keep twisting and rotating and blocking the sockets. I culdn't even twist and adjust them. I ended up yanking them all out with pliers and using the old ones which were more rounded and much esier to work with.

For me , it was impossible to pull the clips out enough but not too much . They completely came out and I couldn’t put them in again . Soo, I used the old top ones from the old struts and put them on the new lifts. It worked but now I’m not sure if they’re secure tightly on the ball joints. I yanked it hard and they came loose

O'la mi amigo! The locking metal strip, if U use too much force and the strip comes off, how do you put it back? Can I still use the strut without the locking strip or is the strut useless?
@elchanojose11 ай бұрын
Hello! You can put the locking strip on by spreading it and sliding it on the grove to set them back on. Just be careful so you don’t cut yourself when doing this. We recommend you use them so the strut don’t come off from the ball or tie point and the hood end u falling on someone and hurting them or your self. Take well care!

Hello Andrew! That’s how the dealers make money, in simple things like replacing wipers blades, hood lifts supports, and other etc simple things that can be done by the owner of the vehicle. You can save more than half by buying them and installing them your self. Just take your time and be safe. Take well care Andrew!
