I still have quite a few videos from 2022 that have yet to be uploaded and they will in time, but since day one of Philly's Decibel Set was so legendary, I decided to let these next five videos skip the line. Not only that, I've decided to put up the headlining act first since it's their second show back as a band, and as a tribute to their late singer. They're a band that tenaciously pursued their goals since their founding in 2001, introduced an entire generation to Death Metal, toured much of the world as well as every corner of the country, and despite experiencing a painful loss, the Melodic Death Metal horde that is The Black Dahlia Murder persisted.
As a young kid who got into Metal around the year 2008, there were always a few kids wearing TBDM shirts at every show, and although I was aware of them, my main focus was on Old School Death Metal from Florida and Black Metal shenanigans of 90s Norway. Some many years later I'd work merch for a touring Death Metal band who had become friends with TBDM and on our way to Virginia, we were invited to come hang with them since they were playing Richmond. I'd end up speaking with vocalist Trevor Strnad at length about Canadian Hardcore and how he used to drive the van around for a couple of those bands, which included a Chris Colohan band or two (either Ruination, Count Down to Oblivion, or both?).
Trevor was a living encyclopedia for extreme music and practically Indiana Jones of the Metal Achieves, who would have had several doctorates and academic awards if they gave that shit out to well informed heshers. What struck my most however, was that he spoke to everyone like a real man of the people, and clearly valued all his beloved fans more than anything. His passing was felt throughout the entire world of underground music, who would rally around his friends and family. Although he has passed on, his legacy is forever carved in stone, and most importantly his memory lives on through his family, friends, fans, and anyone else who's lives he touched. May he rest peacefully.
This was The Black Dahlia Murder's second show back after a successful hometown memorial show for Trevor back in October 2022, at the famed Saint Andrew's Hall in Detroit. Knowing that Trevor would want the band to keep going, guitarist Brian Eschbach moved to vocals, and former guitarist Ryan Knight would return, keeping it in The Black Dahlia family. I may not have grown up on The Black Dahlia Murder, but I'll always deeply respect every contribution made to our community, and how important they are to thousands of fans across the world. This video is for those fans, their friends, their family and for Trevor.
Support the new line up and keep Trevor in your hearts and minds.
Current and former members of The Knife Trade, Arsis, Serpent of Gnosis, Compost Pile, Twisted Sacrifice, Despised Icon, Goratory, Trauma Concept, Burn in Silence, Lecherous, Slugdge, Unbodied, Abigail Williams, Cryptic Abuse, The Breathing Process, Dead Ashore, Exodus, Cannabis Corpse, Structure of Inhumanity, Finntroll, Sylosis, etc.

Brian is doing a great job, trying to step into Trevor's role is no small task. Believe me, it's not easy to sustain that type of vocal through a whole hour+ show. Trevor is in my opinion the greatest American death metal vocalist of all time (tied with Dave Vincent) just because of his mastery of high and low range and seemingly-effortless transitioning between them- not to mention his intelligent and evocative storytelling in his lyrics which are more akin to short gothic horror stories. He also was largely responsible for choosing cover art and the general aesthetics of albums, so it's a massive void to be filling. We lost not only a great writer and musician, but a historian and lover of music. Hard to believe it's been a year since he's been gone. I grew up with this band and have loved them for over 20 years; here's to 20 more. RIP Trevor

What a beautiful tribute in your description. My first exposure was Ozzfest in the mid-late aughts...'06 maybe? I was a huge fan of recorded death metal throughout my teen years but had not experienced the full-fat live experience of a live death metal show until TBDM came around. They brought a certain fun factor to legit death metal in a way that really resonated with me at that time and continues to this day. I want to thank you for spending your time filming, editing, and posting this. I am so amped for Boston on Sunday and am going to let a lot of emotions out in the pit with my fellow metalheads. To my ears, Brian is absolutely killing it. He looks so relaxed and is going the distance at these hour-long shows. Seeing them live is going to be surreal. I thought for months that it was all over and honestly did not know how to deal with it. What a gift to be able to keep going with the boys while we all grieve.

Listen to any song from any album and it has their signature feel and sound. Few artists are able to achieve this. It takes a lot of guts to switch from an instrument you are comfortable with and move to the lead singer position which you are totally not used too.. and probably knowing that fans will probably always compare what you're doing to Trev's style.. those are big shoes to fill. I commend him and I got nothing but respect for him taking over the frontman duties. I like to believe Trevor would approve of Brian. I hope you're at peace, Trevor.
