HCC788 - 1988 Tiger Force BAZOOKA - Vintage G.I. Joe toy review!

I didn't start getting G.I Joe figures till mid to late 1986 (I was too young for smaller action figures before that, according to my mom. Even though I had tons of Masters of the Universe figures pre-1986). As a result, I originally missed out on all the earlier Joes and Cobras and started my G.I Joe collection as a little kid with 1986 figures like Cobra Commander in battle armor (I didn't get the two previous Cobra Commander versions till I was an adult), General Hawk, Serpentor, Sgt. Slaughter, William Perry, etc, etc. However, I was extremely aware of the earlier characters because of the G.I Joe cartoon series and the G.I Joe comic book. So when Tiger Force came out in 1988, I was excited since it was my chance to get the older characters that I had seen in the cartoons and comics, even if they were wearing a different variation of their clothing (Tiger Force colors for figures like Bazooka, Duke, Flint, Roadblock, etc, etc). While I did eventually get the original versions of all of these characters when I got older (thank goodness for the internet and ebay and tons of money I have as an adult that I never had as a kid) I still like the Tiger Force versions since those are the ones I had as a kid. On a side note, thank goodness they went with the name Bazooka for Bazooka. Even as a kid back then, there is no way I would have taken Bazooka seriously if they had named him HEAT MAN (he sounds like a rejected Masters of the Universe character with that name. LMAO).

Good review. I like how the card makes him always working hard/being at practice. I know all the GI Joes are the best of the best of the best but good to see them showing the top people still keep honing their skills

I liked those reissues as a kid because I got since main characters no longer available in stores. The tiger force camo was awesome too.

The Orange and White are Tennessee Volunteer colors. The uniform could also be a old Tampa Bay Bucs uniform when they had orange and white colors.

The closest I can figure for the orange and green on the football jersey is the University of Miami Hurricanes, who were a dominant team in the NCAA at the time. Vinny Testaverde had been the most recent #14, graduating to the NFL after the 1986 season; there was no #14 on the 1987 National Championship team.

I got Bazooka mail away so i got the classic colors but tiger versions were not bad. I really liked the reissues. It gave kids like me a second chance at figures and stuff we missed the first time. Sure the first runs were normally better but tiger force, python patrol, etc was better than just missing out.

Far from being a bad thing, I think calling him "Bazooka" was a good thing. After all, it's just a nickname, and as you said it harkens back to his weapon's predecessor.

I've cosplayed V1 and V3 of Bazooka. Yes, I recreated his Fisherman look from Battle Corps, except my rocket launcher was more in line with a SRAW than whatever that monstrosity he had was.

I really like the Tiger Force classified versions. I have all 4 figures. I'd probably would say Outback is my favorite followed by Bazooka and way too closely Recondo, then Duke. I've said this in previous videos over the years, but i wish the later version of figures for Joes also had increased rank promotions. Some figures had that but ones like Frostbite did not. Dang, I didn't realize the back of the bazooka swung up. The commercial was much better than a lot of the ads on youtube ha ha.

Me too! Tiger Force Bazooka saw quite a lot of playtime during my childhood, since I did not own his version one action figure. Plus, Tiger Force also allowed me to get a Snow Cat to play with since the Tiger Cat was a repainted Snow Cat and I had really grown to like the Snow Cat vehicle thanks to the G.I. Joe cartoon.

The figure of Bazooka, like Lady Jaye, somewhat disappointed me because I wanted the weapons they had in the cartoon. The cannon thing Bazooka had in the show was so cool. And I just wanted the Lady Jaye figure to have a simple javelin like the show, not the javelin launcher the figure came with.

T-54/55's (they were released in the 1950's) were in reserve as was the T-62 (1960's release). They probably meant the T-72 (Late 60's model) which was the tank the Soviets were using at the time as was the Middle East.

Bazooka version 3 looks like a fisherman, not something I think of when I hear the words "Battle Corps" as for being a fisherman, he's already clutzy with a bazooka, which is scary enough, I'm not sure if I trust him with a fishing rod.

I don't know if they ever fleshed out Bazooka's pre-military background, so it's possible that he was just born in Minnesota but lived at least some portion of his childhood in New England. Thus, explaining why he's a Patriots fan. Or, maybe it's his high school or college football team colors. Generally, though, there's no way he could have been as dumb as he was portrayed in the cartoon and still have made it to the top tier of the US military Special Forces (which is what GI Joe is supposed to be). But I guess that's what you get when the writers have such a large cast of characters who all need to have distinct personalities. The "dumb jock" stereotype is something that kids understand, so that's what Bazooka got assigned. I honestly never loved or hated the character as a kid. However, he quickly became one of my favorite Joes back during the 25th anniversary days, when my interest in the franchise was resurrected. One thing I really like about the Classified figures is that they are much easier to customize. So I added some shoulder straps from an extra Stalker figure to my Bazooka, because it always bothered me that there seemed to be nothing holding up his backpack.
