Nice to see LA is getting some bicycle infrastructure

I agree. I was expecting it to be much worse.

Ok, glad I'm not the only one who thinks some bike lanes don't feel safe LOL I'm getting used to it. E-scooter

Yes, especially in Los Angeles. Most of the bike lanes here are pretty scary.

You join a gang! That's funny... I have lived in LA 30 years and gained this wisdom: LA will take up bikes (which it should do, given the constant traffic jams) when there is one cross-city route which is 1) safe and 2) useful. Safe means no cars, useful means goes much further than a 1/2 mile of bike lanes. A useful route has to go from a residential area to an office area so people can commute. I nominate Pico Blvd from Santa Monica to downtown. Close it off, let the car traffic take the 10 or Olympic, and I think in short order you will see many thousands riding bikes to work.

I agree. Having a little stretches of Green Lane doesn’t do anybody any good. There really isn’t a safe way to get around downtown on a bike. I’m painting a picture of a bike in the middle of a car lane is just silly and doesn’t do anybody any good.

Those lanes with bike symbols and arrows within a regular lane for cars are what they call a "sharrow" so that cars know to "share" the lane with bicycles. Not very useful for the average bicyclist, unfortunately.

Thanks. I didn’t know they had a name. They are almost completely useless.

Sharrows are actually worse than nothing at all. They encourage more people to ride bikes on dangerous streets and gives riders a false sense of security, increasing the number of crashes and fatalities. @@hoohoohoblin

@@hoohoohoblin they should have reduced speed limit. In Ukraine (where I live) the maximum speed limit on such road is 30 km/h (less than 20 mph). It is a conception called "bike street" in Europe. In Netherlands the "cars are guests" ("auto te gast") phrase is written on the bike street ("fietsstraat") sign.

Tbh if there were more bike "gangs" it would be better. Strength in numbers lmao

Front suspension 3 gears and a mountain bike to go around LA? Someone has a bit of hardening up to do, haha.
@jli2138 ай бұрын
Exactly my thoughts. A good quality steel frame with 25mm-32mm tires are plenty to absorb most bumps. I have been riding a fixed gear in DTLA for at least 10 years without issues.

@@jli213 Yeah I been on a Wabi riding about 200 miles a week for transportation in South Bay. As long as you have 32mm tires you're good here.

As someone who is used to safe bike lanes, this looks pretty dangerous. I would not like to ride there.

You’re right. It’s very dangerous.

True.

As a DTLA resident, I would agree. It is better after the occasional rain.
