The Hitch Hiker XF component is what I've been looking for but didn't know it. I like the simplicity which other devices designed for SRT don't have and the hook is in the same category. Thank you!

A 30' lanyard is great to have for all the reasons you listed. There is a learning curve with the working end getting jammed fifteen feet away. I like to tie a double fisherman's bend for my working end. Removing the hardware eliminates a lot of headaches when pulling the system out. A nice tapered splice is a great option as well. The bag is a great option for line management.

Ive been waiting for someone i trust to endorse, or not, the captain hook. There is definitely a lot of fluffy gear out there but its a bit pricey to buy and hope you like. Thanks Patrick

I run the same setup, 50 feet with a zig zag, love it, so versatile, the dim bag is nice too, one handed operation and if you cinch it down it keeps the tail from running out of the bag when your climbing. 👌

Right now my go to lanyard is somewhere between 25' and 30'. It seemed really long at first, but I love having it. I use it mostly in DRT as a second TIP, occasionally choke it off and run ghetto srt. DMM pinto + prusik + eashook open on a section of old climbing line with a tight eye. I like being able to clip into the pinto to clean up my bridge when running two systems. Would love to try a capt hook soon though.

Very nice Patrick!! I’ve been running a VERY similar system for a couple months, with great success. How to you feel about cutting with the hook being your second tie in? I guess it’s not technically “life support”. But sometimes it feel necessary for production. Thanks bud

Enjoyed the video. I like the idea of a second climbing rope/lanyard. I have a 20' lanyard that I will carry aloft if I think it's something I can use in a particular tree. A 30 footer would be even better. Wish you had filmed actual examples of you using the various systems up in a tree.

all the gear questions answered RT away hehe NICE , for many years , so many climbers do not understand the use of a long lanyard or a short extra line. call it what we will, beautiful example what tools we should all learn about, caption hook .. I never used one , I just made a big not and wedged in a crouch to transition LOL . I did not have a good teacher in my first 10 years, plus the climbers I worked with did not not to share there methods, ( fear of your better then me ) o well this was way before U tube thanks for being an educational Icon .. I would add a stopper knot with steel ring at the end of the rope for safety and to keep it tended nicely when using foot/knee ascenders. Also a 2-foot piece of tubular webbing as a friction saver when using MRS, and a telescopic Trango Beta Stick Evo to place / retrieve the rope on anchors above. Instead of bag storage simply using a daisy chain from the doubled rope is easier.

Thanks Patrick. So far I've only had one opportunity to use my CH and tgat was in tge too of a codom-white pine 60' up. Temps are near freezing during tge day now, so work is slowing down. Stay safe brother.

I run mine with a hitch climber set up . Only really ever use it in big eucalyptus trees here pretty useful to get from one big lead to another.

Looking forward to seeing you use capt hook. I'm still experimenting with best way to capture progress while traversing with hook. I'm wondering what should be the smallest diameter line to use for traversing, to cut down on bulk and weight.

Is the captain hook retrievable in any way? Or do you have to unhook it by hand each time?

Depending on the crotch it's in, alot of the time you can give it a good flick and dislodge it
