Hook Norton, The Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway. A follow up (Chipping Norton) video

In 1875 work began at Chipping Norton on the building of the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway between Chipping Norton and Kings Sutton. A bridge was built to take the new line under the Worcester Road, although it would be twelve years before the first train passed under it.
Work also started on the Chipping Norton Tunnel. However, the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway experienced financial difficulties and the building work ceased in 1877 with the tunnel uncompleted. Construction resumed six years later in 1883 with the line to Banbury finally opening on 6 April 1887. The Great Western Railway operated the services over the new line. In 1897 the Banbury and Cheltenham Direct Railway was purchased by the Great Western Railway.
We have done a video in November 2022 on the Chipping Norton tunnel and the last remaining building there to do with the railway land.

Car. We just walked from here, up and down the country roads to get to the South portal bridge and gate. Could park at both locations but we just did the one car spot.

Way into South portal final walk, last thing on the video. Can park against bridge, 2 others where time we got back, the 2 lots of people we see going the other direction I guess!.
