Little Pro Tip (you are free to share this with others, Tiffany).... When you start your project, start with a longer tail than usual. If you work your first row and get back to the original slip knot and find you are either short some or have too many, you can still fix it without calling on Mr. Frog. If you don't have enough chains, simply take your hook out of the stitch you worked, put it in the first "slip knot" chain, and use the long tail you left to add a few more chains. If you have too many chains left over, you CAN actually pull the tail back through the slip knot and remove a chain (or keep doing that to remove more than one).

this was great; thanks. my question is what are the chains on each end of the row that are not part of the pattern count? And how can one decide them when designing a pattern, like how many are necessary to make the pattern work?
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Great question Charlene! Those extra chains on a foundation row actually count as the turning chain to set you up to start working on that next row. Generally the number of chains needed depends on how tall the stitch will be in the next row. A single crochet and half double crochet stitch generally on needs one chain to turn onto the next row. Dc I’ve seen people use either 2-3 chains. Treble crochet generally 4 chains. But the size of your yarn and crochet hook can come into play for this as well. But basically, that turning chain is just to start you off on the next row at the same height your stitches will be in that row. I hope this helps! 😊❤️🧶

@Vickiejo683 жыл бұрын
Yes, how do you know that it’s a 6+2?
@CrochetWithTiffany3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vickie! Generally a pattern will provide this information to you unless they only made the blanket in the one size and they are only showing you how to make the one size. To figure out what the multiple stitch count requirement of a pattern is to adjust it here is what I do. If you are trying to figure out the multiple stitch count of a pattern so that you can adjust it I would look at row one and see how many stitch spaces I need before the pattern repeats. Count that number of stitches and then use that as my repeat chain count. Then at the end of row one where it indicated what to do at the end of the row, example if they Hdc in the last stitch then turn, I would add + 1 to my foundation row, Then add the number of turning chains you will need to get onto row 1 to finish off your foundation row chain count. I hope this helps. I know for me I will go without adding a multiple stitch count requirement if I know I am only making a blanket or project one size so I just provide you with a number of chains for the foundation row. If I were wanting to figure out how to adjust this pattern this is the process I would go through to figure it out. I hope this is helpful. 😊🧡🧶

@@CrochetWithTiffany Thank you Tiffany, you are very helpful. I understand what your saying. I guess what I am asking is, what if I want to create my own pattern or project, how do I figure out how many to chain for roll one.
@valeriemcgruder93923 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Very well explained but how do you figure multiples if they aren't given on the pattern? I know for some patterns say no multiples required but how do know if it doesn't say one way or the other. Thank you.
@CrochetWithTiffany3 жыл бұрын
Hi Valerie! Oh gosh, so if the pattern says no multiple required then the pattern is in a one-to-one ratio where it doesn't matter how many stitches you have for the pattern to work. Here you will just focus on meeting the project dimension and you should be good. If the pattern does not give you a multiple stitch count requirement I would assume that this pattern has no requirement for the pattern to work. IF it does have a number of stitches for the pattern to work but they do not provide you with the repeat number then the pattern is unfortunately missing valuable information which is unfortunate. To figure this information out on your own I would look at the pattern and see how many stitches they make before they "REPEAT". I would count how many stitches this number of stitches are to repeat and that would be your multiple number. Depending on the stitch you are using (a single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet) I would add the turning chain to get you to row one (sc = 1 chain, hdc = 1 chain, dc = 2 chains). AND if for row 1 you will be single crocheting into the first stitch (not including the turning chains) or if you will be working further into the project and using the turning chain as your first stitch or not. This is more of a process for an intermediate level or advanced level crocheter who has worked patterns enough to fill in blanks and know how the pattern should be worked and they can overlook steps, but if a pattern is missing valuable information like the multiple stitch count requirement either it's because there isn't a specific repeat number OR the pattern is missing information.

When you have reached how wide you want your project then stop working your multiple of 5 and just make 3 chains. Your foundation row is now complete and you are ready to move onto row 1. Or do I keep increasing by 37 ?? Do you teach how to make this pattern ? 😊

Hi Tina! I would repeat the count of 10 until you meet that blanket size you want. And then add 7 more to finish your foundation row chain. How can I make a ripple blanket because If I use this stitch count and make it as wide as I want it it’s going to shrink when I start the pattern
@CrochetWithTiffany3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy! The ripple blankets and the chevron blankets do shrink a lot. In this case what I do is take a full pattern repeat (such as multiple of 14) then add the number and work 2 rows in. This will cause you to make the project with the angles. Then measure how long this is and then work the math I show in this video to figure out how many chains you will need to make in order to make the dimension that you want. I did make a tutorial going over how to make a ripple stitch blanket and I believe I provided some stitch counts to help guide you. I will include the link to that video if you would like to take a peek: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJy6eJ5slrOHjKs I believe I updated the chain count requirement in the comment section below the video to a more accurate number so check there too. 😊🧡🧶

Great question! I think this could be used for that. Just measure out the diameter of each motif, then take the desired circumference of the skirt. Divide the circumference by the diameter of the motif to see if it will fit evenly OR if you might want to add a round or take out a round on the motif for it to work evenly. Hope that helps! Multiple of 3 plus 1 (add 2 for base chain) ?
@jonilett5992 Жыл бұрын
So multiply the 3 at end add the 1 and then 2 more?
@CrochetWithTiffany Жыл бұрын
Oh gotcha! The pattern you are looking at is trying to explain what the stitches represent. A multiple of 3 will get you the count you need. Plus the 1 stitch in the foundation row to make that pattern finish cleanly (maybe it requires that one stitch to finish off the pattern or something). And then the chain 2 is your turning chain to get onto row 1. Work your multiple of 3 until you reach your blanket width dimension. And then add 3 more stitches to get you onto row 1 and make the pattern work. Hope that helps. 😊🧶❤️

How do you figure out the multiples?
@CrochetWithTiffany3 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan! The pattern should tell you the multiple stitch count requirement before row 1. If the pattern does not show a multiple stitch count requirement it is most likely that there is no multiple stitch count requirement to make the pattern happen. It's more of a one-to-one ratio and you can make as many stitches you need until you reach the dimension you desire and the pattern should work. If you are creating your own pattern, to figure out the multiple stitch count requirement figure out how many stitch spaces you needed to make to for the pattern to work. See when you would repeat. Count how many stitches are in one repeat section. That is your multiple. Then add either the number of stitches you would need to turn onto row 1 OR see how many stitches you would need to add in order to set yourself up to get to row 1's pattern. I hope this helped. 😊🧡🧶
