Translation: Ivan Vasiliev says: I never doubted playing Spartacus character because since my childhood I was sure that one day I would dance him. As a child, I saw the ballet footage numerous times and imagined playing his role. It is a big deal for me to be able to dance Spartacus on the stage.

I saw Vladimir Vasiliev dancing Spartacus, at his most splendorous time. Unique! And now another Vasiliev - he is amazing and a very good dancer too. Congratulations. Sorry to hear that both he and Osipova have left the Bolshoi. Good luck!

Translation: Ivan Vasiliev says: "Spartacus" is a very technical ballet, but one forgets that and allows emotions come through. Technical imperfections if any are not that important in this ballet as they are for example in "Don Quixote", but emotions are. I worked on my role with my favorite pedagogue Yuriy Vladimirov who invested heavily in me. I love him dearly!

I know the bolshoi just barely put out a Spartacus with Carlos Acosta but I really want them to put one out with him! I love Carlos Acosta but Ivan Vasiliev is just perfect!

Translation: Marianna Ruzhkina: Ivan Vasiliev is an incredible ballet dancer. When one sees him perform, one realizes the enormity of the gift he possesses. He is so young, but his abilities are of a mature performer. As a dancing partner, he is reliable and physically strong which allows me to forget the technical side of the dance and concentrate on the dramatic side of the story.

Translation: Ekaterina Maksimova: The debut of "Spartacus" is a complete success. Ivan Vasiliev's performance was very powerful: his technique is always fantastic, but he also showed today great emotional maturity and terrific chemistry with his ballet partners. Great presence on the stage!

Translation: Vladimir Neporozhniy says: Ivan Vasiliev is a remarkable dancer. He has such a strong presence on stage which is important for the overall atmosphere of the ballet. We dance face to face only once in the whole ballet. But when our eyes lock on each other, it gives the whole performance much needed impulse or force that sets up two warring camps against each other. When I enter the stage, he leaves it; when he enters it, I leave. The whole juxtaposition of two camps depends on and expressed through our characters' conflict. Vasiliev endows Spartacus with his own personal very powerful manly aura.

He completely owns the stage. Wonderful! He is such a great dancer but I think he should have been paired with a shorter ballerina.

I actually love Acosta in other roles like Colas, De Grieux, Prince Florimund, and all his other roles, but I have to agree with you that no one compares to Vasiliev. my favorite role that I have seen Vasiliev in is Phillipe from Flames of Paris and Solor!

I do not think he could ever be considered another Nureyev, he is a much stronger manly dancer, Nureyev was Nureyecv, a fantastic performer in his own right, but a Kirov style dancer, not Bolshoi, whose two different styles are very different.

Translation: Ivan Vasiliev says: Today I debuted in the role of Spartacus! The whole story of Spartacus unfolds before our eyes in just three acts. I feel that I told the main character's story just the way it was intended to. At last I danced the whole ballet, not just the first act. As a performer of this Grigorovich' ballet, I feel that I revealed the true nature of my character and his story from the very first to the last moment of it. While expressing Spartacus's authentic feelings in dance, I felt strongly pulled into and deeply affected by the world of my hero. This ballet is written for a performer who is strong equally physically and spiritually; it tells a remarkable story of a born leader and a slave who rises to challenge, even overthrow the whole Empire. I am thrilled with an opportunity to relate the story to the audience.

@eddyshotmail Nah, He isn't sloppy enough!! Maybe if he leaned out of half of his turns and traveled during his revolutions and then followed it up with moves that where not streched out to their maximum potential before executing and transitioning seemelessly into the next move he could be just like him. IVAN IS A GREAT IN THIS ROLE!! HE OWNS IT! No one will top this!!

They should've released the dvd with him instead of Carlos Acosta. His rawness: that's Spartacus!

Fabulous dancing but it really is a godawful ballet - Look at the corps' steps! Just awful, repetitious and clodhoppingly obvious response to the music.
