Latonya Collier needed a topic for a college research paper. Her great aunt pointed her in a direction that would become a passion project. Latonya learned her great-great grandfather was the first Black man to die in Indiana's electric chair --- a device he had helped to build.
AN INDIANAPOLIS WOMAN IS SHINING A LIGHT ON A DARK PART OF HER FAMILY HISTORY.
HER DISTANT RELATIVE HELPED CREATE THE VERY DEVICE THAT WOULD END HIS LIFE.

Most average people during those times, only had an elementary education, no matter the skin color. RIP King. Blessings Sis and may you find MORE of your ancestral Indigenous history.

Empirical evidence has shown that children who know their family history are better postured for success in life; they know whose examples to emulate and whose to avoid. Latonya has taken a deep dive into her family history, and is better for having done so for all sorts of reasons.

@@runoz2839. Sir or madam.....being executed in an electric chair in itself is a very grievous penalty and the fact that a black man was the recipient of such a harsh penalty does not make it notable or memorable, for me anyway. Personally, I would not want it known that a relative of mine went to the electric chair, as in a good many of these cases the recipient of this penalty is usually guilty of an unspeakable crime.
