The music is great and really adds to the movie. I think the movie does a good job of portraying what it was like in Indiana in 1952 or whatever it was. You feel like you are right there. Almost made me feel like going to some small town out there and coach a basketball team.

Besides Goldsmith's amazing score, the fact that they shot the movie in Indiana with Indiana HS players as the players on the team is the key. It's authentic. The best example is that the director forgot to tell everyone what to do after Jimmy hits his last shot. Everyone knew how to naturally react because they had been in that situation before.

Do you wanna know what it is? What endures this movie to all peoples and all generations? It's SOUL. This movie speaks to every soul who has ever longed for something more...to BE something more..to EXPERIENCE something more. We all want to be more than we are....

Hoosiers is one of our favorite movies. It was even better since Gene Hackman came from Danville, Illinois where we live.

Mr. A.O. Scott, sometimes you don't have to rationalize to understand why a movie is so popular, this movie is popular because it has a lot of heart and is exciting to watch.

I would be more impressed with Mr. Scott if he pointed out that little Ollie took too much time at the line to shoot his free throws in the state semi-final, and Hickory didn't deserve the chance to advance. It's fun to watch.

@bobbya16 I was just about to comment on why this movie is one of the most enjoyable, well-done sports movies of all time, but this comment distracted me. To say that anyone under twenty is automatically ignorant is impressively ironic in its own example of extreme ignorance. I could say that anyone over thirty is only worth their 'death and taxes', but I don't, because unlike you, I have enough wisdom to know that everyone is an individual, and ignorance and wisdom run equal through all ages.

This movie looks like it created tropes and cliches.
