Most people only started liking him after he'd befriended Lilith (which is understandable, their dynamic is adorable), but I *always* thought that Hooty is peak comedy. Maybe it's Hirsch's voice acting (like, do you hear how his voice cracks on some lines, like "lean on me!" or "what choices do you have?", it makes ME crack as well). Maybe it's the fact that Hooty is unapologetically insane, demonic and gross yet still somehow lovable and relatable.

I loved him since first episode, despite also finding him very annoying. I believe it is mostly likely because he was written specifically to be annoying, and the fact that the characters in the show also are annoyed by him. His annoyance level has dropped since befriending Lilith, but that's mostly because there is someone who legitimately calls him friend, and calls him by a nickname.

Hooty seems to be the type of character that strikes a perfect balance between unpredictably chaotic and hilariously endearing. He is VERY in-your-face, has a finnicky attention span, and often doesn't pick up on a lot of social cues (but doesn't mean he is completely oblivious to them). But beneath all of this, this agent of chaos is an innocent puppy who just wants someone to be his friend; if you're patient with him, you'll soon see how loyal and resilient he is. EDIT: I did NOT expect to get this many likes! I was just making an observation on a quirky character. Hooty’s reaction to Luz’s drawing implies there are others of Hooty’s species, along with the fact there are Demon types and specific species. Another thing is that no one really knows much about him, so these creatures must be secretive, or extremely dangerous, or both. Dangerous is shown by, well… He fought a squad of the Emporer’s coven like a joke, and can take lot’s of damage. They can also be recreated via magic shown by Eda and Lillith’s (first) duel. Let’s call these the Owl Tubes. Owl Tubes likely work alone or in packs (mostly alone), and are likely to be very territorial (Again, Luz’s drawing). Owl Tubes function like owls, as they can’t digest bones, instead making owl pellets. They are obvious predators with their eyes facing forwards. Owl Tubes need an object to make host, like a tree or house, which becomes the body. Owl Tubes seem to have almost full control over the body, as Hooty has legs (Moonlight gathering), and can also control the lights inside the Owl House. If an Owl Tube were to possess a tree, they would likely be able to control all of it’s limbs. They were also probably made by wild magic. The powers of Owl Tubes also might be able to scale with the size of the host (Porta Hooty seems to be weaker than Owl House Hooty.) Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk. Oh, and there are babies or something since Eda raised him. Also also, they have some bee like functions (talking with dance), minor cat features, (hissing, fur/skin puffing out to appear bigger to potential threats), and skin being removable (evolution to an actual species from just materials, maybe?) I don't think they're pack animals otherwise Eda would probably know about more of them (aka the pack Hooty was a part of), and Hooty wouldn't be so territorial. This is likely because it's one tube owl per host, which means that they cannot share hosts/territory. Hosts are presumably too big and immobile for them to function as a pack. He probably becomes territorial over other tube owls trying to take his host for their own, like a beta fish :>

Hooty is lowkey the perfect sanity test for how this whole world will feel to the humans in the story other than Luz. Uncomfortable, bizarre, overwhelming, weird... but once you get past that initial impression it grows on you like a mold and you find yourself loving the Boiling Isles.
