GOOD VIDEO: I use very hot tap water and only a little soap. I only pour in a splash of soap so I do not have to do a second rinse run over the carpet. The hot water and minimal soap works just fine for me. If you have pet stains and smell then yeah, use more soap and a rinse as well.
