Yet another banger by Mr. Stephen Kotkin. General Mattis deserves praise too!

That last statement by General Mattis reminded me of how proud I am to be an American

Sad so few people feel pride for America these days. I'm a Trump supporter in terms of policy, but I can definitely say, neither party is offering us much in terms of a vision for American exceptionalism. And don't even get me started on the Media. Americans need some new voices who care for the country over "clicks".

as per the discussion around the 10 minute mark, 40 years ago I was an undergraduate math major who was interested in history and spent several hours reading historical works including spending a rainy winter afternoon in the basement of the stacks reading the Nuremberg Trial transcripts. (These days the easiest way to do that is to point your browser at the Harvard Law school web site and better indexed than the 40 or so volumes of the original transcripts)

Kotkin ought to debate Mearsheimer RE NATO decisions affecting and responsibility for Ukrainian/Russian war before the US presidential election for public consideration and informed decision making, for all those who would be interested to listen and learn

As to the answer to the first question . . . America had an industrial complex in the past, we don't have the capabilities now that we had then.

How are we in the financial situation to take on this strategy? 1990, 2000? fine. How can we take on this posture in our current financial situation?
@karagi101Ай бұрын
Doesn’t necessarily require more money. It requires reallocation of money to prioritize what is needed to carry out the strategy.

Their answers about what to do are predicated on their being some great reserve of human capital in the US. I don't see any evidence for that. I see incompetence and corruption in public service at the highest level. Nobody has even bothered making the case for why America should be involved in Ukraine other than with BASIC platitudes about fighting tyrants and saving democracy like this is some kind of Marvel movie. We just wasted two decades fighting pointless wars and the people behind those wars are still calling the shots in policy corridors. Let's hope we don't spend the next two decades fighting more pointless wars, but I'm not holding my breath.

Democracy means that the folk govern their country. How many countries in the world are governed through its folk? The answer is: none. Hence there is no democratic country in the world at all. Which democracy do you think to defence?

Around Min. 25:00 Mattis says block the import of energy I.e. Oil&Gas and the lights in Chine will go out in 30 days. China has a huge strategic reserve of currently 5.4 years of its annual consumption. I do think the US and its ally can very effectively block a big part of China’s Oil&Gas imports. However, it would be a long time before the lights go out in China
