Wow, that seems like a premature euthanizing of this car. With that much oil in the intake side of the engine, I'd venture to say 95 to 99% of the smoke is coming from the supercharger. You've gone this far Hoovie, at least have him replace the seals on the supercharger. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the results. Have they done a compression test?? Unless you have one cylinder way out of line from the rest, I don't see how it could be causing that much smoke. As another commented, cylinder and valve seal smoke issues tend to be worse on start up, and decrease after. And most importantly, those are very consistently there or not there. This business of sometimes it just goes from no smoke to heavy smoking after running for a while, points at a supercharger issue. Replace the seals on the compressor for God's sake before you put her down!

@Strong man delete the supercharger?! Why? If it's knackered, rebuild or replace it. If you just remove it, you'll have an engine down on compression, down on power, guzzling fuel and running way too rich, which in turn means it smokes and won't pass emissions...

Honestly the engine bay is big enough to take even a 7.4 under the hood...it's make to take a v12 so...I would...the issue comes with the wiring since the 7 series has so much wire hair, it could present one hell of a headache and many things won't work after the swap

IIya PimpDaddy agreed. But let’s say you put a LS under the hood and were able to get it to work... could that engine get this big bitch down the road and still make it perform?? Also i know corvette has a super charged version of the LS, that would definitely work.

Frederick Behn let me put it to you this way. There are many types of LS engines out there. You can go fro the 5.3 all the way up to the lt4 with 700hp. Basically very similar to most high performance BMW’s... they are fine for a few years, then richer owners or those that have it on lease give them back.... they are sold at auction to people who have enough money to buy and put fuel in them, but not maintain them to the crazy high standards needed... they then keep them running until basically a mechanic says ‘aaahhh yeah that’s a big job’ and they chop them in and they are basically junked...
@KretinoSantino
@KretinoSantino 4 жыл бұрын
They are usually good for first 2 owners. First owner is rich, car gets proper maintenance, but the owner needs new car up to his social status after 3-5 years. Second owner is somewhat successful, can afford some maintenance, wants something special but can't afford to lose 70k on amortizaiton. But sells it at 8+ years when repair bills are not worth it anymore. And the third owner is brokeass wannabe gangsta who empty his wallet to buy aging car, and is lucky to have enough money to fill the tank. And he does service is in amateur non-specialez shops, or doesn't service it at all.

@@KretinoSantino Nope, absolutely nothing to do with keeping up with maintenance. That's a bs story coming from deluded dreamers or owners/dealers who need people to buy these second hand. @@donkgated8074 Yes it does. Almost every car have intentional/unintentional design flaws. Most can be permanently fixed with reasonable money. And that's not case of BMW, that's case of every expensive car ..... at some age of the car, it is owned by someone who can't afford proper maintenance and problems just add up, one unfixed issue cause new issues in long term. I'll really like you to read this, After doing the valve seals and you still get oil in the intake your problem is the supercharger, get it resealed. The supercharger is know for letting oil through after some time and that what's you saw, as for the engine it's made of Alusil and what causes the cylinder to score is the Oil weight and the thermostat opening temp too high, get a lower temp thermostat and use 20w40 or 20w50 oil and the scoring will be a thing of the past. The engine doesn't have to be that expensive the engine is a derivative from the N62 v8. The block is exactly the same, apina only used a custom piston to reduced the compression. Get the N62 block, transfer your rotating assembly (piston and crankshaft) use the alpina heads and you've got a sound engine. Sorry I'm just seeing this now, i would have been of help if i saw this years ago 😅

There is a video on KZbin about how a guy takes a BMW 328D Wagon cross country skiing with his dad and the BMW Turbo takes a dump cost him 4k to fic a chap turbo. Originally he was making an mpg video and it didn't really get good mpg and ruined his trip with his dad. My Boss purchased a 2012 BMW 528 and it died at 87k miles his 06 528 died at 187k he is now driving a Cadi. My Lexus es350 160k miles has never broken down, my 3.6R outback 214k never broke down except for an alternator, and Cat fails, my 2008 Tacoma 250k miles never broke daily driver. I did own a 1985 735i that I drove to 305k miles, a 2006 330xi these cars were good or ok. Best luxury cars are Cadillacs and Lexus...

When you pulled the engine out there was oil in the intake and air inlet. There is only two reasons I can think of, that would cause this and for sure both will make your car smoke like a train. 1. Turbo oil seal. 2. Bad PCV valve allowing cooked oil vapor to collect in the intake. A bad valve seal will cause smoke but usually a small amount mostly on startup and when you start moving.

Even the new pcv valves do that

@@CP-jt6bw I've seen a few engine designs that let the pcv vapor escape line do a dip and that gives oil a home to collect and build up then go into the intake . I'm not 100% familiar with this engine positive crankcase flow design but that could be an issue.

I'm not familiar with this bmw supercharger, but normally superchargers are not engine oil fed like a turbo. They have their own oil contained. The pcv or crank case pressure could be more likely.

Disable the spark plug for suspected cylinder and see if the smoke stops. MY guess is and was before any work was done was the compressor as you had all kinds of oil after it in your intakes. Remove the super charger and drive the car. See if the smoke goes away.

@Archimedes The jokes really not on them. Whoever buys these new, or any luxury car at this price point is going to trade or sell it in a couple years. They always take a fat hit on depreciation, but not far off from the average Joe. A lot of times these are company cars so its all a write off. the joke is on the regular consumer who wants to buy a classy car at a reasonable price and thinks they can maintain it. I think that's what Tyler is trying to show.
