Hope & Dignity: A Catholic Response to Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide | Formation Video

Hope & Dignity is a pastoral initiative developed by the Archdiocese of Edmonton to equip Catholics to be effective witnesses in their families, parishes, workplaces and communities against the siren call of euthanasia and assisted suicide. In this video, Archbishop Richard Smith and Fr. Paul Kavanagh are joined by Dr. Robert Hauptman to answer the questions that Catholics and other people of goodwill ask about euthanasia: What does the Church teach about euthanasia? What exactly is euthanasia? Why do people ask for euthanasia? How should I respond to a loved one who asks for euthanasia? Can Catholics who choose euthanasia receive last rites or a Catholic funeral? And more.
Dr. Richard Hauptman is a family physician who worked for 10 years as a pain consultant and two years in palliative care before returning to family medicine in 2019. He currently works as a solo practitioner in a busy family practice.

Passive euthanasia is still euthanasia, yet the catholic church is fine with this form of euthanasia? Passive euthanasia is just like active euthanasia in that you are intentionally causing the death of the patient in both cases.
