I understand that they aren’t showing Hope’s full power because it shows that she’s trying to be careful with her magic knowing the damage she may cause to the people she loves if she goes overboard. I also understand that they’re portraying Hope to be someone that doesn’t rely solely on her powers, but as someone who can defend her self by using her physical strength. But some of the effects on her spells honestly feel a bit to.. may I say.. childish? I mean like the blue light effect they used when she made Kai Parker fly across the room, was that really necessary? The other effects I don’t really mind, but that specific scene seemed a bit too much to what I’m used to.. And I really do miss the effects they used in The Originals when a witch would cast a spell.

I they should of just kept the coloring for magic non existent or only use a color when a witch is truly unleashing everything they have at an adversary. Like when hope was extremely pissed back in originals and she screamed and the blue light came. Even though technically that was the hollow's blue light. Each witch could had a color that goes for them. Bonnie green, hope and hollow blue, Qetsiyah maybe a darker earthy green-brown, Dahlia straight up pitch black.

JBaby Lucus I agree. I would prefer strong winds gathering, whispering ancestors, a little earthquake and fire from candles rising above their normal length as the effects for casting spells. I also agree on one comment when they use blue light whenever Hope uses the Hollows power. It indicates that Hope is using mainly the power of the Hollow and not hers. It’s good presentation. I kinda get pissed off when Josie reverse the memory spell and then there’s this weird wave that was scattered all throughout everywhere. Unlike when Davina desired Klaus’s entire line ALL OVER THE WORLD (coz all over the world is where you can see Klaus’ sirelings), you didn’t see a worldwide scale-air wave been released from the pool.

They don’t exactly use too many spells that require big ceremonies or massive amount of power. I mean hope has her own incredible power to draw from that josie and Lizzie can also use. Etc. however some spells they do use equipment like their dark magic spell to locate Landon and Josies precognitive spell and josie and hopes protection spell.

IDK but Legacies does not live up to TVD and TO. The shows The Magicians and the Secret Circle have more TVD and TO vibes and darker themes than Legacies.

Nah, the Magicians is closely tied to Legacies if u ask me, having different creatures and magic spells etc. The Secret Circle is what closely resembles TVD and TO, which showcases simple effects, which what I loved about TVD and TO. If u remember the last episode of TSC, they killed John Blackwell by just pointing the Crystal Skull, and without much effects, the guy burned from the inside out (without the flames etc)

@@jhaycraft3980 The magicians started out with that effect and they are consistent throughout their seasons, floating runes and letter etc. If Legacies is a separate series from TVD and TO, you will see no complaints from me. Hope is a major character in the TO series, we never really saw her use spells to open x lock doors on TO Season 5 and now she uses spells in nearly every move. I guess that's why people say she looks weak. I love the Magicians too, and I will certainly love Legacies if it's a separate entity. I have no complaints with the effects but I'm more concerned about its consistency given that it's technically the child of the TVD and TO series.

I like the concept of this series, but I was used to how TVD/TO portray magic. Long spells, pain infliction etc. This series was just overboard with effects and every move they make needs a spell to have it done. Almost like Harry Potter. While I understand that they wanna introduce something fresh in this series, but I don’t know.. imagine if the spells here was used in its parent series, imagine Freya, Vincent, Bonnie using spells to emit lighting out of their hands, or each telekinetic moves requires a spell, that doesn’t settle for me. Just kinda weirded out that they did this addition without having to introduce a bit of it in the previous series.

​@@PyanY Exactly. I am really comfortable with the idea of the world having vampires, werewolves, and witches only. I guess they needed to expound the universe so that other fans will not get tired of having a third season being a continuation of the two. But I can remember that Julie Plec stated that they have wanted these creatures to be introduced to the series, they just don't know how. So I guess creating another TV Series for that is the loophole to their problem. Whenever I see Legacies, I can't help but see Charmed that focuses on magic school and the students in it. Imagine the easy-to-use spells of legacies used in TVD/TO, they could've saved tons of lives.

Well I also think that's because of their limit with magic you know? They can only use specific spells. Any other type of magic could hurt people which is why none of them ever use it with the exception of like Lizzie. Hope only uses spell magic (I'm assuming) because it'd be easier to control. Jossie and Lizzie can only syphon magic and they've only been taught spells. The only thing that would kind of seem out of place is all the effects. But their reason for spells being used in everything instead of just pure magic is that they've only been taught in defensive magic and told to control their powers through spells.

I would agree if there had been growth anywhere. The monologues are childish, the FX are laughable, the script makes no sense... I'm stuck watching a girl promised and showcased as being the first trybrid in existence, from Lebonaire and Mikaelson descendants, first born of her generation to simply fall in love with a guy with whom she has no chemistry and bot being able to use her abilities efficiently. I.E.: always needing Josie and her twin sister to siphon her in order to cast a spell because i guess she can't tap into her werewolf and/or vampire side/s to gain more power (the same way any witches siphoned an Original to hightened themselves), tapping into her vampire sides almost never except when Brandon is in need so then she teleports anywhere he is and on time to catch an arrow, her werewolf side being showcased like two times per season (at the beginning and ending of a season so we dont forget it still exists I don't want to be rude but this show lacks depth and dark themes. Maybe not even themes just a dark atmosphere. It looks like rivedale with magical creatures and trust me its bad. I dont want a "Monster of the Week" shit. This is not a cop show. I just feel its a mess and the target audience is clearly not the TVD TO fanbase. It really has become just anither shitty CW show

If they would show more of Hope's powers instead of making her seem weak due to her fear of losing control. Which they don't focus enough on and if they stop making her take a backseat. The show would be much better. I don't mind these monsters. But Hope was supposed to be the special one being a tribrid and all. But when it comes to these fairytale creatures. Hope doesn't seem so special anymore. Hope Mikaelson would make the show alot better. If they give her similar scenes that Josie had in season 2. We like Josie. But it was Hope's darkness we wanted to see. What are they waiting for? For Hope to finally become a full tribrid. Hope does not need to die and vamp out to show her dark side. She was born with a darkness within she fights everyday. I wish they would focus more on her powers and struggle and lest on her relationship with Landon. The reason Hope was backseated in season two was because Hope got some character development in season one. That's what Julie Plec said. So this season they wanted to focus on other characters like Josie and Landon. But i want to know what development did Hope get exactly? The only one i can think of is one that revolves around Landon. We didn't see much development. Just her learning to trush Landon and let him in. Why do they have to make Hope's character revolve around Landon? It's like they can't or won't give Hope storylines that don't involve Landon in some way. Either directly or not directly. Just by name or Landon being physical present. There was not much development. I feel like they just used that as an excuse to backseat Hope. Julie Plec is a very good writer and creator. But Legacies was originally created for Hope. Said so by Julie. I wished it would've stayed that way. Season two would've been much better. Had it not been so heavily focused on Josie.

this Scooby-Doo show is clearly meant for a preteen audience because its source material The Originals is lightyears better -- genuinely one of the best shows of all time -- dark, suspenseful, well acted, and driven by heavy overarching plots....while this is just a Scooby-Doo monster of the week type show where nothing is ever truly at stake...(I only watched because of Hope)...even TVD which was more focused on ships had a completely different tone and it was more mature

Which would be okay. If they didn't spend the whole season giving Hope little to do and making Josie seem stronger. Hope's supposed to be the unique and special one. But how can she when their bringing in mystical creatures like a Phoenix? A tribrid don't seem all that special when the show throws Landon a Phoenix in our faces. He doesn't even have any connections to the previous series TVD and OG. Yet he gets to be made center focus over Hope. They don't have to make Hope weak to let others shine. I only enjoy the show when the focus is on Hope and the twins. Hope and Josie should've shared the focus. Hope is my favorite and i hate when she takes a backseat.

Many of you guys said Legacies is trash. But, c'mon. It's a spin off. A spin off has something related to the previous show, but a spin off doesn't always have to share the same genre as the previous show. TVD and TO have dark vibes theme, but Legacies not. Why? Because TVD and TO both have a similar red line, protecting people and family the characters loved. Meanwhile in Legacies, the story is more like to friendships and teen fantasies. Plus, Legacies is about a school, and school is for kids. That's why Legacies doesn't have the dark vibes like TVD and TO. Sorry for my bad english lol I'm just trying to explain my opinion.

@@jenniferandthings i’ve heard people say that before but it doesn’t really make sense to me. why incorporate an entirely new franchise into an already successful one? this magic was never in TVD or TO, and between both of those shows, we’ve explored and seen magic since the beginning of time, so this magic in Legacies literally makes no sense in the TVD universe. there were never glowing lights or butterflies or anything like that - it makes it look childish. not to mention Harry Potter had the budget to make it fit and look real, Legacies doesn’t.

All the people saying they don’t like how the magic is portrayed in this show kind of should understand that shaky shots, bleeding noses, multi colored contacts, and high pitched ringing isn’t enough to keep a supernatural show on its toes. Special effects concepts have evolved immensely since Tvd started production. If you’re watching this expecting Tvd, or TO or even like how Teen Wolf was, you’re judging it off of an outdated form of producing vs what Legacies actually is: New CONTENT.
