its definitely not wrong to like both, and its not "wrong" exactly to find similarities in music genres, but when people say atl sound like 5sos is what sort of gets to me. Cause atl came first so technically you would say 5sos sounds like atl. And i can get why people think they re similar. I mean, ATL is pop punk and has always been and 5sos is mostly pop with a dash of pop punk in a few of their songs. Please don't hate me for saying what i've said. Some people blow this way out of proportion with the whole "fucking 5sos fangirls comparing bands" thing. Of course people are going to compare music they like. There is nothing wrong with that. People, please stop comparing 5sos to alt and other vaguely similar bands. I have nothing against 5sos, so fan girls please don't rage at me but they aren't like most of the band people compare them too. And to the people calling them punk, they aren't. Sure they aren't carbon copies of one direction which not other boy bands are, but thy sure as hell aren't even close to this.
