Fun fact, you can convert a regular SF scout tailcap to momentary-only by disassembling it, taking the internal button mechanism and trimming off the nibs that do the latching. I either use that or a UE07 switch on M300c's. I think the 300's (Arisaka/Malkoff included) are the best combo of form and function. Yeah, they don't have a bazillion lumens or candela, but they check the box, have the most mounting options, and don't take up a bunch of space on the gun. And when you push the button you get white light. Yay.

I can understand being afraid of rechargeable batteries but it's mostly over blown. Buy from reputable dealers that sell reputable companies (Samsung and Panasonic are the only ones I buy). Take care of them. The wrappers on them are a safety reason and takes 2 minutes and a hair dryer or lighter. In short, don't buy the cheap ali express/ Amazon recommended garbage and that basically removes all your chances of a runaway battery.

I drilled a hole in the tail cap and went all 1980 LA PD swat style and made my own tape switch with the inards of a doorbell and a whole lot of heat shrink. A tad cludgy. However it works and only cost. Light $9.99, mount $14.99, doorbell $9.99, wire I had, shrink tub 6.99, solder + odds and ends $5.00. So $46.00. I get board easily.

Actual experience I had with the Arisaka in-line vs the HSP thorn tail. I caught the front of my light on a door frame and sheared one of the 3 positioning lugs on the Arisaka. Light was then canted/floppy. I switched to the HSP afterwards because the mount has dedicated mounting holes for 4 positions opposed to a 3 position slot.

The way I’ve always thought is I’d rather have a light that takes spare batteries rather than rechargeable batteries. That’s just me but I’d rather just swap batteries rather than having to charge one. I like the Streamlight ProTac but I recently got a Surefire M600df and it’s pretty nice but as far as white light goes as long as you get a cloud defensive pressure pad mount the Streamlight is great but I like being able to use the Modbutton lite for my Surefire and another for my IR laser.
@beardly01212 жыл бұрын
But you could just buy a few 18650 batteries and have them charged in your gear??? The battery is removable/swappable.

I look at it the opposite way. I like the magnetic Chargers so that I know when I pick the gun up it will be at 100% at all times. Another thing to consider is that with a power pack and solar chargers you can stay running in the field forever with rechargeable batteries.

Proprietary batteries and have to LOCK IT OUT to prevent random things turning the light on, but according to Olight that doesn't exist.
@lonewanderer36032 жыл бұрын
@@mainebugmuncher what proprietary batteries? They run on standard 18650 and the smaller lights run on cr123. You only need their specific battery for tail cap charging. You can swap batteries on the fly if they go out. While good throw and brightness is important, those also help with defeating photonic barriers. An easy test to see if your light is bright enough is to park your car with the brights on and then stand in front and try to illuminate the inside. If you can't see the headrests, your light isn't defeating the photonic barrier. Powerful handheld lights are also super valuable (but kinda shit for searching things). A blast of light to a shadowy figure in a parking garage at night can absolutely stun somebody and is way more PC than some other means of quickly identifying and delaying a potential attacker.

I still stick standard Surefire handhelds in a mount, usually a Fury P2X. Like you, I have long gorilla arms, so I'm partial to the Magpul offset mount, but also use VTAC mounts. I still have a couple of old XM07 tail caps from Surefire, so on my main carbines I use those with SF pressure pads.
@PHIllip3242 жыл бұрын
I would've also included something about using pistol lights on rifles. I'm considering using an X-300 Turbo at the 6 o'clock position on my rifle (I have no rails on top, so no 12 o'clock mounting).

Since I refuse to spend the money on NV, I'd say the cloud defensive rein is the best out there. The cable management and just the light itself is incredible. I'd be interested to see more reviews on the Wurkkos WKC05. Basically a copy of the streamlight HLX but with some of Wurkko's magic done to it. Wurkkos is super popular in the flashlight enthusiast space and they make really good lights. I bought one to test myself and I'm gonna see if it holds up to weapon usage. All of their lights i've owned in the past are super durable and typically have higher output than surefire and streamlight. I run streamlight pistol lights but all of my handheld and headlamp lights are enthusiast brands (Sofirn, Acebeam, Wurkkos). No olights. I think there is a lot of potential for weapon mounted lights from these companies, more so for rifles because they will never get popular enough for holster support.

I tend to prefer click on over momentary on. I feel like my control setups have never been good enough to shoot well while holding down a light switch. Lithium is just one metal out of the alkali family. Basically all commonly used batteries have some alkali metal component. They all share the same properties of being highly reactive though some are more and some are less. It doesnt really matter if theyre rechargeable or not they all pose similiar hazards when exposed to water or to a lesser degree air. Though you are correct in that they are more likely to get damaged when theyre charged and discharged a lot.

Arisaka makes the best durable lights with a moderate price range. Cloud Defense makes the best lights but they aren't cheap. Avoid Modlight, it's bad. Surefire lights are not bad, but over priced for what they do. Most like Surefire for their accessories which are great.

My favorite weaponlight is a stream light polytac 600 in an offset mount. The 10 tap program lets me skip out on all the strobe bullshit prevalent in so many lights and the simple tail cap with momentary keeps NDs a remote possibility. Also less than $100 and very bright.
@JJheadcharge Жыл бұрын
For what I would expect to be the most likely use of a weapon light in my case, Ive always prioritized having momentary and constant on capability- what if you have a home intruder that submits or is otherwise subdued but still a threat? Momentary only, unless you keep that button pressed your house is going dark again.
