I posted this song on the other day as a tribute to my father, who passed a year ago. I got my love of Jazz music from him.

I remember purchasing my vinyl copy of this masterpiece sometime during my college years in the 60’s in downtown Boston. It has always stayed with me.

This little song for my father Does things that no other Can do As I sing it to you It has a rhythm and a rhyme That will fasten his memory In time As his beauty shines through For through my mind and soul My heart will always hold A special place for him It's true We bow our heads and we pray Every day Father's Day And let's review All that he means to you Our mother's love is real nice But old Dad sacrificed For us too Let us give him his due We're very proud to be In his biography We sing this song for him And you, you, you, you

This was not at Montreux, this was at Montreal 1996. Théâtre Maisonneuve, Montreal, QC. Mr Silver never appeared in Montreux. Still the best of his performances we ever seen!

It is in Montreux, it's written on the curtain behind.

It's Montreux, the band is The Horace Silver Septet:- Ron Stout, trumpet; Steve Baxter, trombone; Doug Webb, tenor sax; Phil Vieux, baritone sax; Horace Silver, piano; Bob Maize, acoustic double bass; Harold Mason, drums.

Bien sur c'était à Montreux, on le voit sur l'affichage au fond de la scène. Ce n'était pas en 1996 car le premier Montreux Jazz Festival débutait en 1967. J'y avais joué le premier jour en quartet.

His right hand piano technique is unusual. Very little use of the 4th and 5th finger. Mostly using the elbow and wrist for articulation, instead of the fingers.

Sax player didn’t do a bad job of sounding like JOE Henderson got to give him some credit
@KSmall109CAB3 жыл бұрын
Joe Henderson with a pinch of Pharaoh Sanders I suppose. Maybe a tad of Junior Cook as well. And a lot of originality as well.

Left out the triplets in the top of the tune? Well, Horace wrote it so he can do it anyway he says!
