In HFW while it seems like you only carry about half as much herbs worth of healing since you can directly call the extra from your stash into your pouch while in the middle of combat, you are actually carrying about 10X the max of the first game and are NEVER in any danger of dying.

The first thing I spent resources on in HZD was always inventory extensions so this new system is a very nice improvement! The fast travel thing confuses me a bit though. It's free but also costs travel packs? Or is it free as long as you're at a camp fire, but costs a travel pack if you're not? If so that seems a bit of a downgrade from having the gold travel pack, to be honest. I hope they'll have one so it'll be free 100% of the time again.

They should have added fasttravel between any campfire instantly(like tombraider), better with storeboxe next to it, in towns with merchands. If so alot more people would have enjoyed Hzd, there would be more structure in the game. You can focus on the game story. Insane you have to leave shit behind with value, because you need like 3 items to craft stuff, i came to a point, where i wanted to break the disc in half after killing a huge boss, findkig out i could not cary more stuff. Hzd is way overhyped, mechanics should have value too in a review. Basicly the basics for any game

I like that none of the added features conflict with established lore/progression from Zero Dawn. It’s all things that were previously unlockable being native or that can be explained with new gear or skills. “Why couldn’t the focus do this before?” Because Aloy was still learning how to use/program it. “Why can we do all the mount things from the get go?” Because they were unlocked in the last game. “How can she do all these attacks now?” She’s not an inexperienced teen anymore. I do overall like the look of the things they added. I am however not super happy that they apparently fry the Shieldweaver armor right away. The "Metroid" strategy is not surprising, but DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD I WORKED FOR THOSE DAMN POWER CELLS?!

Unrelated list suggestion. (Has nothing to do with this game) 7 lackluster boss fights that were saved by epic music. Because we'd sleep on them and never take interest in that battle again if the soundtrack wasn't so darn awesome. Examples: the Basilisk (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for PS2), Eredin (the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), Dark Beast Ganon (Breath of the Wild), and I'm sure you could fit a Sonic boss or two on such a list.

I got this game on day one and am thoroughly enjoying the experience so far. I am taking my sweet time exploring everything on the map and doing every sidequest Aloy runs across. This game is a beauty.

I feel the pull caster could stand to be even more handy. Imagine using it to collect items just out of reach. Like machine weapons or a part that fell out of bounds. Or even using it to yoink human enemies like the bat claw or to latch into machines for a hard strike and/rapid override.

I love all the improvements they made except for one, camp fires you find are no longer marked green on the map like they were in ZD. I don’t know why they went with keeping them all white. It’s much easier to see the green when you’re zoomed out of the map to know if it was unlocked for fast travel use. It’s a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things but it’s noticeable.

The stash seems a welcome improvement since I quickly ran out of space in the brief bit I played of Zero Dawn. I like the changes to the Focus as well. I also found all the triangles for resources distracting and I'd often wander off gathering resources (or seeing if it was stuff I could pick up) and get side-tracked from whatever quest I was doing. I didn't mind walking that much in Zero Dawn, because the map is deceptive. I'd look at it and think about how far away a location was, but then getting there always took way less time than I thought. It's the same thing Kingdoms of Amalur does: make the map seem massive, but then it never takes as long as expected to travel. I'm waiting on getting the game, all that said. I never got far in Zero Dawn, because I felt bored and a bit overwhelmed at times. I loved the beginning, but that feeling started fading once Aloy was out on her own. As you mentioned, all the icons got distracting and overwhelming. The other issue was all the herds of machines. I felt like I wasn't going more than 50 yards without running into a herd that I needed to avoid or kill. I usually just ran/rode through them as fast as possible because I got sick of constantly fighting. I wanted to explore without constantly watching for machines. I get they're a main point of the game, but it felt tiresome after a while. I stopped playing when I got into the side quest that involved taking out 2 smaller camps before taking out the bigger camp at the stadium in the northeast of the map. The enemies always found me no matter how stealthy I thought I was being and I was always overwhelmed. I didn't have my mount with me, because I got sick of the mounts dying on me or needing repairs in order not to die. The people I was helping seemed basically useless for killing the enemies as well. I'd like to try to finish HZD, but it's not a game very high on my list right now. It's a game I want to love and one I did love at the start, but little things added up to the point that I uninstalled it to make room for others. Forbidden West looks very pretty indeed and I'm happy for those who are looking forward to it and who love Zero Dawn, but I'm waiting on it for now.

Wait, you didn't know about the Golden Fast Travel Pack? I picked it as soon as I left the Sacred Lands, you can get it from the first trader you meet at the border to the Carja territory. And a single fox skin isn't really that expensive.....

Fun fact: on PS5, you can go into the settings and set fast travel screens to auto-load as fast as possible, eliminating the "Press X to Continue" button. I LOVE the options menu in this game!

I now only want Forbidden West even more. And I didn't think that was possible. So congrats Ellen. Side Note: I recall the ability to create jobs to track crafting projects and purchases in Zero Dawn. Don't think it showed where the machines were though. And definitely not where to find animal parts.

I Actually never used fasttravel expect for special reasons like "I just wanna go check and see if there's something new at that old settlement" now instead of having to go all the way back there, just to see there isn't anything new, and having to go all the way back, doesn't happen, I just travel there and then one of 2 things happen 1.There is something there, I fast travel back, and then go there normaly 2.There isn't something there, I fast travel back and just leave it But I barley ever do that and that's probably why I have over 100 hours on the game but don't have as much loot or progress than others who apparently do fast travel

I very much like Aloy's new look. That techy armor is incredible, and her new hair and face honestly look great. Sucks that I can't get it on PS5... I don't want to dig in on just a PS4, but I probably won't get an upgrade to that for over a year, because I'm Focusing on a new PC and the weak point is my wallet.

How to make Forbidden West? Take a solid game, massage inventory and fast travel, throw in a handful of Tomb Raider best bits, and a sprinkle JC3 grapple-chuting. Sounds good to me

Oh, Ellen, you poor soul. You didn't notice the unlimited fast travel pack in the original game until recently? That thing was a lifesaver. And I did a lot of side hunting to upgrade packs and stuff so I was able to get that golden pack more or less right away. Seriously though I've been doing everything I can not to spoil details for myself so seeing all the little quality of life things made me squee even more than the whole "Wait, we have a glider now?!" part. And hearing you say that the game is good right from the get-go made me stare longingly at Friday all the more.

hunting boars early game is a pain in HZD, but if you use Fire Arrows instead of the lowly Hunting Arrows, it only takes 1 arrow to kill one instead of 3. it took me 7 playthroughs and 3 accounts in platinum to realize this XD

Forbidden West is the only game I have ever preordered and the release date countdown timer (even when it was down to mere hours) was PAINFUL TO SEE!!! I love this game so much. I hope that we somehow get 10 sequels, or maybe even a World of Warcraft style game where there is one persistent Horizon world that they keep adding to over time (As long as it isn't a money hungry project like Warcraft is). The Horizon world is also the first and only time that I wish that I could live in their world, in the future but back to a much simpler time.

This is going to be painful but the unlimited fast travel thing is something you can actually get quite early in the game. In fact I believe I only crafted 2 or 3 fast travel packs ever. You were also able to create jobs for resources for upgrades and armor before 😅
