It’s great to hear that they have given Aloy more depth. I liked her in Zero Dawn, but the character writing was definitely the weakest aspect of the game. It was significantly improved in the DLC, and I was super hopeful that trend continued. I also read the recent blog post about accessibility and I am pumped. PlayStation exclusives continue to push the boundaries in this respect. I’ve been very involved in the disabled gamer and accessibility community for a couple years, and it brings me untold joy that comprehensive and creative accessibility is the rule and not the exception.

I will be getting it for my PS4 and thank you making this review video Zoe. 70 hours to finish the main quest with some side quests to boot and still have plenty left to do that's awesome. Like that combat epasiclly against machines is deeper and that each weapon has it own combat style that players will need to utilize to bring down the machines . The character development of Alloy " Alloy will discover what friendship means " sounds like the story of Forbidden west is going to change her perspective on how she interacts with the people who care about her. I can't wait to dig my teeth into this squeal when it comes out 😁.

Plainsong was so well designed! It reminds me of farming life, the banana leaves, the braided woven clothings, and the construction of houses made of straws. Gosh, it reminded me of country life, like wow I felt at home!

I appreciated Eurogamers written review but I'm so glad to have this video review with Zoe. It's always so nice to get a review from someone that's truly passionate about the game rather than someone you can tell just doesn't care for the genre in general or the previous game. That being said I really really appreciate your total honesty in this review Zoe. Honestly if Forbidden West was just more Zero Dawn I would have been so so happy with it, this looks like soooo much more than I was even expecting and although I'm a little saddened to hear the story has some weak points (as I thought the first games story was pretty much impeccable) that's clearly not the main draw of this sequel. Although as a Zero Dawn lore nerd I'm veryyyy excited to see whats going on with the character Tilda and if Ted Farro is still lurking around somewhere (I hope to god I can murder him if he is). Great job Zoe!!! And holy shit I can't wait until Friday.

The common thread among all the reviews thus far is Forbidden West improves on the relationships Aloy has with other characters while managing to convey the main story in a more "show not tell" way compared to the previous game that relied heavily on audio logs, and a lot of environmental storytelling (including Holograms). They also mention how the side quests aren't one-offs, and the characters featured in them make recurring appearances through out the game, thus, making the side quests more a part of the main story than not. If true, this alone, sounds like a vast improvement on not just the first game, but open world games in general. I don't have a PS5, so I will wait to play FW on PC in 2024, 2025. From the onset, you hooked me with your deep dive into Aloy's disposition, and her relationships. Characters have always been the forefront in a narrative for me. 2:42 I also like the cuts to Aloy to simulate an emotion the reviewer elicits. It was done well in the Lore videos, and it's brilliantly done here as well.

good to know about the settings. the first game was one of the few i bought for my ps4 pro and one i was very excited to play, but the final update for the complete version of the game made the previously optional motion blur permanent, which causes me to experience motion sickness and prevents me from playing the game. i was hoping the developers would address this in the sequel so i’m happy to know that they did.

Gameplay looks fun (and there was some excellent footage in the review). Hopefully they've learned more storytelling methods other than the tedious hologram lectures from the first game. At least they've added animus pulse now, hated switching between focus on/off in the first game.

I am excited to get this game on Friday. I jumped into HZD only 6 or 7 weeks ago, knowing that there was a new game coming (apparently I bought the game a year after it originally came out and never even took the plastic off). I am glad that I only had to wait that long for the new game where you guys have been dying for years. I love all the content you put out on this game, Zoe. It is phenomenal. I am disappointed that you believe that they rushed the last 1/3 of the game and that Regalla did not seem to live up the hype. Thanks for the review!

Personally, Varl with a beard is an absolute hunk! I know Aloy doesn’t like his beard (at least from what I’ve seen so far lol) but his character model is gorgeous! Can’t wait to see what else is in store!

Definitely plan on playing, once it's out on PC (if it ever is). I don't own and can't afford even a PS4, much less a PS5. I have Zero Dawn and I'm about half way through the game right now, so considering how often I play (I have a HUGE backlog, like we all do) I'll probably finish Zero Dawn right around the time Forbidden West comes out on PC...again, if Sony and GG decide to port it over. If you're reading this Zoe I hope that sick voice got/gets better, and I hope you're overall well.

The idea that not all of the bad guys have much to do with the main character actually sounds like a good thing. Story wise it makes no sense for a single person to somehow be the enemy of every single ruffian out there, hopefully they will do something like off handedly mentioning them ruining stuff for people Aloy has never even met in future games.

I put Zero Dawn down for reasons I cannot recall (most likely a shinier newer game...) shortly after the 2nd act started. It was enjoyable, but I get bored of open world games easily. Therefore I have been totally unintrested in Forbidden West - until I watched this video. Zoe's effusive adoration for the series, combined with the JAW-DROPPING visuals, have made me rethink.... I will prob leave it a few months, what with the PS5 upgrade of Cyberpunk just being released, but I reckon I will return to the first game, focus on the main campaign, and get this new entry later in the year. THANKS ZOE, I'M GONNA BE POOR COS OF YOU! 😢 😄

Damn, this looks great. The moss and plants in general look *lush* AF. I can't wait to get it on PC in 2-3 years when I'll (hopefully) have a new graphics card that will allow both "performance" and "resolution" settings at the same time. Maybe there will be some DLC to explore further into some characters (like The Frozen Wilds did for HZD). ( _Climbing is still better in Breath of The Wild on the Switch_ )

idk if im a fan of making the sharpshot bow take longer...it was already out dps'd by the banuk hunter bow in frozen wilds. the only time i ever really used sniper type bows was to make it more fun trying to "snipe" everything mid combat. and im talking maxed out stats on UH difficulty. striker bow was the best.

Still haven't played Zero Dawn yet. I bought it almost 2 years ago along with God of War so i could play them on my PS5. Solely going on this video's footage, the cutscene animations looks amazing, but perhaps due to the background blur, feels like bad quality green-screen. It's like those FMV games where they've recorded live actors and super-imposed them onto the game setting. Weird.

Part of that may be KZbin. I'm not sure how compression works but it usually makes a lot of stuff look way worse when it comes to quality.

Load speeds might be blazingly fast, but I've seen a lot gameplay footage with really jarring pop-in. Like at @4:06 Those drums or boxes or whatever just pop onto the branch as Aloy slides in front of it.

I like that there are two reviews from eurogamer. Zoe’s video review is far more balanced in its critique than the websites’ written review. Can you tell me Zoe, does the game make a direct reference to Zulu face paint? The website reviewer seemed annoyed that they appropriated the face paint as a cosmetic decision.
