A song from my new album, In Lieu Of Flowers, played beside my music desk for this year's Tiny Desk Contest submission.
This one is about the wave of guilt that can come along with losing someone close to you. And about forgiving ourselves for not knowing how to save them.
(I tried so hard not to clip the audio on the build at the end, but alas... I am no professional. Please forgive me!)
Lyrics:
What if I told you, you're on my mind?
I was heading in the fade of the day
With a life on the line
Waiting on a world where we stayed
And the time put on hold
Didn't know it was the right light of day
Where everything would unfold
Oh, have mercy on me
If I could turn around the time
I would do it all differently
Lift the sun from the horizon
And pull you back down to the earth
Find a way to wipe the clouds from your eyes
To show you your worth
What if I told you, the world's gone mad?
Lost touch with how to love
And the sky's gone cold and black
Grasping for the hope that I felt
With you by my side
Could see the colors of the morning
With such hope in our eyes
Oh, have mercy on me
If I could turn around the time
I would do it all differently
Lift the sun from the horizon
And pull you back down to the earth
Find a way to wipe the clouds from your eyes
To show you your worth
How could I know...
How could I know...
I couldn't know.
