Horizon Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds Combat Reel

Loved this dlc. I think it's better than the main game in most aspects. I thought I would put together another combat reel to showcase the awesome combat and gameplay made possible by the talented folks at Guerrilla Games. If you have seen my other videos, you know I'm a big fan of the strike from above skill, so I was happy when they added a new mounted variant and you can bet I abused it...haha! Late game enemies and mission spoilers can be found in the video, so beware. Enjoy.

the primary game is amazing. but I didn't realize the future potential of it until I played TFW. the additional combat upgrades, voice animations, machines, etc all make the Horizon an incredible game. I wish there was more. I just finished challenging whatshisnuts for Chieftan over the werak and now headed to Thunders Drum. so I'm guessing I'm almost done and spent maybe 10 hours playing. I want more!! fortunately the replay value has increases ten fold after TFW so NG+ here we come. I want to be this great at combat! I'm primarily a bow hunter in the game but I'm diversifying my combat now. I've used some of your tricks with the Tripcaster and proximity bombs and it's pretty awesome.

I agree, the Frozen Wilds improved on everything in the main game. I wish there was more dlc coming, but hey, what we have is still infinitely replayable. That's cool to hear that you are using those techniques. I didn't really pick up on how deep the combat is until after beating the game and I started to experiment. And the fluid controls, animations and sound just make it so fun every single time.

Love this! I agree, TFW is awesome. It really is a good middle ground between the main game and what could possibly happen if we get a sequel. If they can do this great work for a DLC, imagine what a new game could be.

it'd be great if they'd focus on releasing atleast 2-3 more DLC for the main game, mostly because i fear the release of a new PS console will drive them to release a sequel only for a new one. I wonder if my fear is irrational or not, but they have a great game to expand on.

I unlocked the Dismount strike (from above) almost at the end of the game. Such a shame!! I thought it would only work on enemies which you almost never meet. But when I saw what I could do I knew I missed out.. lol awesome gameplay BTW.

how do you get the strikes when you jump on their backs? by tapping R1 for a light spear strike? also, a couple times you sprint and jump and are able to get an air strike, is that right? just by jumping off the ground?

It's the Strike From Above skill that I'm using. Anytime you are near an enemy, and in a somewhat elevated position, the button prompt (R1) will come up and then you can execute the strike. It can be done off of a rock, off of another machine, or just a slight incline on the ground (and for the Frozen Wilds you can do it off of your mount). I've done it off of tallnecks and really high cliffs, but eventually you reach the height limit where the fall damage kills you (I show this in my Volume 5 reel). It's really versatile and since it's more powerful than a silent strike or a critical strike, it's the best melee attack in the game. And it looks really badass!

People like you are the reason why even the entry level machines in Forbidden West have about 15 different attacks. The player gets nerfed like crazy while the machines all became a nightmare to deal with. Great for you I imagine but me? 10 minutes of stun lock thanks to a Slaughterspine smashing me without about 7 different attacks at a time.

I think it happens when they are running or charging. You can just about shoot them anywhere and they will tumble and be in that knocked out state for a few seconds, giving you time to attack.

It's actually very easy, think of it like this. If you're running at me and I throw a rock at your face and it connects it's going to knock you off balance. The lens or well eyes for the machines to me is like our eyes and brains. Aim at their heads or eyes while running and they'll fall over. It works very well esp against ravengers and sawtooths. Seeing them trip and rollover from a arrow is very fun. Sorry for the long post, Insomnia.

This isn't impossibly difficult to do on the hardest difficulties. If you really play around with the combat and try new things, you'll always surprise yourself with how badass you look. He clearly got creative and found what works best for each enemy. I will never engage Tramplers without a mount again after seeing this. It's so much safer than being on foot and having to be crazy accurate against 5 at once while evading constantly. It's like cattle herding now lol
