Awesome video. Just never let the hole hog drill handle get next to or behind you, ever. Keep it all the way in front of you and use your strength and never go full throttle unless you are master experienced on a hole hog type drill. It will mess you up, be careful.

Would this work in sandy soils?. How likely is it for the hole to collapse after you pull out the auger but before you slide the pipe through?
@beckymash123 жыл бұрын
It would depend on if the sand was well-compacted, it's moisture content, ect. I think you might have trouble with super-dry sand that had just been hauled in to a site. I do sell a lot of augers to sandy locations, so I think under most circumstances they must be working ok.

It almost seems like you should have a thru bolt where you connect the two augers, if the set screw were to vibrate loose, you’d never get that first auger out. Pretty nice system though, how much for a ten foot x four and a half inch section?
@beckymash123 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, vibration should be minimal as your drill should be operated at the lowest speed possible, and stress is placed on the flats of the hex shaft inside the auger drive and not on the set screws themselves. Right now I have a ten footer in the 4.75'' diameter for just under $800 and that includes shipping. Steel prices are getting crazy in 2021, so that price is subject to change. Thanks for your interest!

Use Galvanized pipe or PVC pipe, dig hole on either side. Sledge hammer through or water jet-plumb a hose fitting to bust through then just push or hammer till through.

How do you bore through a 17' width driveway? Do you do it from both ends and hope you meet in the middle? Also, why do you need two augers attached? Couldn't you use a drill shaft attached to the auger and pull the auger out frequently to remove the dirt like they do for vertical drilling.
@beckymash122 жыл бұрын
I have had customers who were able to shoot from both directions and meet in the middle. It's impossible to say you'll be on target each and every time, but yes, it's been done. Re: drill shaft- once you reach a length longer than your jump hole, you won't have any room to pull the auger back fully to shed the dirt. Plus you're talking a lot more time, a lot more effort the longer the length of the bore, all things we are hoping to save you. :) Great questions.

This is interesting, I have a gas auger and I would like to use my DWD450 instead, what kind of adapter do you use? Thanks.
@beckymash122 жыл бұрын
Our augers have an adapter with a hex shaft that you tighten directly up on in your chuck. :)

What about couplings on the pipe? Since they are larger than the pipe itself, would that not get stuck on the sidewalls of the hole and make it a lough tougher to push a pipe through? I saw a comment that a 10 foot section is 800 bucks. Well if i only need to use an auger once, it seems like a big waste of money. Couldnt i just get an auger big enough for 4" pvc (with couplings) and then just get shaft extensions much cheaper? The hole i want to bore would be at an upward angle so dirt would be falling out of the hole as its bored.
@beckymash123 жыл бұрын
You can get 20 foot length schedule 40 PVC that "tapers" (made with a hub where you don't need couplings) making it easier to slide through. Yes, couplings increase the friction going through the completed bore, but the outside diameter of a coupling is 4.5'', so while you may get some resistance, a 4.75'' hole is still going to accommodate 4'' pipe with couplings. And I'm a fabricator, I can build the auger setup you're wanting, but I can't guarantee your dirt still won't lay in the hole behind the auger section. Thanks for your excellent questions!

What is the size of the auger used in this video? How much does it weigh? What is the weight of a 5.75 inch x 3 ft auger? Thank you.
@beckymash123 жыл бұрын
Hi- this is a 4.75'' diameter, 5 footer. It weighs around 21-22 pounds. A 5.75'' three foot long would weigh around 13-14 pounds. Hope this helps!
@KimTran-vb1ci3 жыл бұрын
@@beckymash12 Thank you! 21-22 lbs for the 5-ft auger + 15-16 lbs for the drill = > That's almost 38 lbs for the whole set-up. You're one strong lady!

I want to dig a 14 foot long x 4” diameter hole under a paved driveway so a French drain can pass water to a nearby drain but below the drive., I would use similar drill and a plain extension shaft. Where can I get a auger drill in 4 or 5 inch? Locally?
@beckymash124 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, the only issue I foresee with the plain extension shaft is the removal of dirt from the hole. A fully flighted auger like our design alleviates that problem. You can purchase a 4.75'' diameter auger from us that is designed to fit 4'' pipe, I'm not sure if you'll find that diameter auger in the bigger box stores but maybe. Still, you should call us for a quote on a 14 footer, you might be surprised how affordable our augers are. Thank you for watching!
