Bob has given a demonstration of excellent technique. With the voltage and wire speed exactly right, he didn't get into trouble with burn through and secondary key hole effects. The bead on the back of the weld was exactly uniform. In a way, it would be educational to see how he deals with real world problems -- Often you have only one chance to get it right, using an unfamiliar machine and nonuniform materials. Also, a demo of the same weld with stick would be useful. Thanks!

how about gmaw spray arc transfer mode using hard wire doing a 2G horizontal for a bend test? using .045 or .052 Lincoln hard wire
@socialistpete10 жыл бұрын
I've been searching for the same thing. In all these globular videos they run so slow.
@eliasrudnitsky388410 жыл бұрын
plus spray at pretty hot settings is a lot more difficult than globular, and id like to see the plate bent until it cracks so its not just a visual pass or visual test but a stress test
@joedrums198710 жыл бұрын
You can run the GMAW-Spray 2G test with backing and at spray arc settings depending on what gas mix you are using. The higher the CO2 content the higher the voltage will need to be. If you are using 90Ar10CO2 try 350-420 IPM and 27.5-28.5 Volts with .045 diameter wire. The Spray arc is hotter but is not difficult as long as you are not carrying too much weld metal. I always try and keep the 1/4" weld size through out my tests.

I'm doing a 2g d1.1 type weld test for work. They want me to run around 245-260 amps for a 1" plate with a 45* bevel and a 1/4" backing plate. I'm using rapid arc with .45 70S6 and I'm having a hell of a time. I can't do more than 3 passes before things start melting away on me and rolling over. I try to give it a little time, but it's takes 9 passes minimum to fill this b***** up. After 4 passes my height somewhere along the groove is mismatched. At this point, I'd much rather do 3g.

couldn't he have pushed it with the same gun angle he was using, or would it be almost the same thing as dragging it? i think to, I've learned to push it instead.. i think im gonna try it this way though
@Bodyperfection1018 жыл бұрын
If you push rather than pull you run the chance of the puddle running ahead of you. This can cause two problems, one lack of fusion and two possible cold lap at the very end, also your penetration will be far less with a push than a pull.

yup, college welding and real world two different things. when your forced to weld out of position, or doing repair work while hangen upside down under a semi trailer trying to weld with an arm that's fallen asleep, you gain a unique perspective; suddenly all the welders that spend their entire carers with their ass on a cushion start sounding like your fifteen year old son in drivers ed telling you that your doing everything wrong, and your like, " was I that annoying when I was in school?"
@An_Urban_monk7 жыл бұрын
josh ziesmer I'd venture to say bob moffat could kick your welding ass any day dude. Post a video and show us the exact same weld done by you. You can can let the world decide. College profs who write on a black/whiteboard all day are worlds apart from dudes who actually do the work as shown here. The proof is in the pudding not the trolling.
